derpmonster 22,412
They understood it fully well and agreed with it. Yes, more people back then thought slavery was okay but it doesn't mean they didn't know what it was. They knew exactly what slavery is and agreed it was okay. Can't wait for Little Buttplugs to defend this. Check out iTunes data & graphs at CHARTPOP.live

derpmonster 22,412
Framers: smart enough to establish a democratic republic and write a constitution. Also framers: apparently dumb enough not to understand slavery means ownership over another person who isn't considered human simply because of skin. And people wonder why he has 0% approval among African Americans. Check out iTunes data & graphs at CHARTPOP.live
PartySick 172,478
Despite it being "normal" back then, plenty of people, some founders included, knew that owning people was bad Oh Pete So we can choose between the gaff machine VP, the tone deaf mayor, Warren, or Sanders. Whimsical bitch

Reginald 13,841
Nope, they knew quite well that it was wong, and also that the issue of enslaving other humans would end up becoming a huge problem.

President Biden 5,898
Half and half. Some wrote that they saw nothing wrong with it, because they believed their slaves were “less than human” Others fundamentally recognized it was wrong This isn't that problematic of a statement though. He misunderstood the perception of race in the colonial era. It’s not like he said “they didn’t know any better”. He was just articulating why it was difficult to overcome bc of SOME people’s opinions about people of color. I got drunk

I’m avoiding the other toxic parts of this forum. World News section is the main reason I come in here anyway since Gaga isn’t doing anything at the moment. We all know some thought it wasn't wrong. What is he offering to the discussion here by repeating that other than sounding apologetic towards it? dit 46,738
So beyond disgusting. People back then 100% knew it was wrong hence why some slave owners who had a slither of a consciousness would free their slaves or try to "treat them a bit better" etc...meaning there was a guilt factor to owning slaves. People always knew it was horrible. Shame on Pete. For someone as "intellectual" as himself you'd expect him to research something like that a bit more instead of making this baseless statement. edit: and to those making the argument that some slave owners truly did not believe it was an issue because they viewed black people as inferior so they had no guilt about owning slaves well isn't that proof that those owners needed a "justification" to ease the sense of guilt or to ease the social idea that owning slaves is wrong? Even those who believed in such BS 100% knew it was wrong. Let's not ease the idea of slavery as simply being something that was normal. It was totally abnormal even though it was common practice. People knew it was horrible...people do horrible things KNOWING it was horrible. Humans can be disgusting. We don't have to absolve humans from knowing what is wrong in order to understand why they do bad things. It's not difficult to believe that people did bad things knowing they were bad.
