No Way 0
A very brave Gaga :) I love this statement. It is so bold and true. Gaga never said that the pope doesn't matter. She said that what the pope says MUST not matter to all people. She is saying that what the pope said does not matter, not the pope himself. Peace y'all. alffy74 53
This view of Jesus, although popular (it's what I was raised on, and it's surely the version of Jesus that Gaga believes in), is not the only one widely held by Christians, nor indeed is it entirely supported by the bible. "Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5:17-19 "I come not to bring not peace, but a sword." Matthew 10:34 "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters -- yes, even his own life -- he cannot be my disciple." Luke 14:26 "But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them -- bring them here and kill them in front of me." Luke 19:27 These are all among the alleged words of Jesus. True, but if you search for the consistent messages across the teachings of Jesus, only those about love, forgiveness and compassion prevail. The other ones are disparate here and there, and tbh, they should be taken in the context they were spoken.

alffy74 53
omg - she is CRAZY to be saying this stuff now - or perhaps quite masterful in her marketing... It's like regardless of the content of what she is saying - but say ANYTHING against the Pope anywhere in Europe is NUTS!! In Europe, the Pope is THE man - all of Europe practically worships this person. So to say anything against him is like blasphemy - Europeans are NOT open to hearing stuff like this. No one really cares about the Pope anymore, except those in Italy. How many people go to church anymore? Very few. Europe is in fact much more tolerant about gay issues than USA. European countries have finally been able to separate Church and State, not sure we can say something like this about US.
Lolabunny 0
like it or not the pope is an institution, she should speak for herself without critizising others, she's not gonna change people's opinion's anyway.....

tiffa 169
The problem isn't with one person. I don't get why she would turn this around on the Pope. It's a religious thing, even though not all religious people are against gay marriage.
Mariann 301
This is a brave statement but she is almost begging for more critizism. :ohno:

KingAlanI 3
Not all Catholics follow the Pope. I thought a Christian ignoring Catholic doctrine is Protestant whether or not those terms are used, though perhaps less different from Catholics than other Protestants. I'm a religious skeptic and one reason I'm skeptical is because of people saying they're a certain religion and then picking and choosing which rules of that religion they follow.
