Chickens in Malibu 7,873
@xoxo Craig How did Gaga get snubbed? She got in SoTY with a non-single. What else do you guys want? AoTY is harder because the committee didn't want to nominate Bradley Cooper for such a big category. This soundtrack got Gaga a total of 8 nominations, and will probably get her 5 Grammy's in total. You guys should stop complaining.

It should have been AOTY, they managed to nominate Shallow with Bradley Cooper in a few big categories last year... so why can they not nominate ASIB? Its the most critically acclaimed project to be released within the window, and had the most impact. Also Best Pop solo, best pop vocal, best contemporary pop, best rock song (Black Eyes) and others should have given ASIB more noms than what its got. RahrahWitch 6,985
Never heard of this guy before but having a separate category for black Artists would do even more damage. On topic, Taylor and Katy both haven't really been releasing award winning music to me personally so I don't think they got snubbed.

StrawberryBlond 14,913
Every year we see this race argument. It's no different from anyone else who complains about their fave not getting nominated, everyone always thinks it's the result of prejudice. Most of the time, it's that the academy just isn't as into an artist as the critics and public are. While many an an artist has been nominated purely because of their amazing critical reception, it doesn't happen to everyone. At the end of the day, it's not like all the critics are on the academy, therefore, their opinions don't hold any weight. Critics have their opinions, the academy has theirs. If the academy aren't feeling it, they aren't feeling it. If anything, the academy have been more accepting of black artists as time has gone on, every year, more and more get nominated and it's not even the big names either, it's really obscure ones who've never even had a top 40 hit. The majority of the black artists nominated this year, with the exception of Lil Nas, Lizzo, Tyler and a few others left me saying "Who?" Yet I've seen much bigger white artists with great reception not get nominated. I sometimes think that those who always complain it's a race issue don't actually listen to much music outside of black music. If they did, they'd realise why these other artists are getting nominated because they're awesome and deserve it. And they'd also see how many of them didn't even scrape a nomination. 12 hours ago, ALGAYDO said: Goldlink: makes a good argument about POC artists getting snubbed GGD: poor Katy Perry Maybe the irony was lost on some of them, but I personally viewed it more of "there's lots of white artists who got snubbed as well." As I've said above, recent ceremonies have proved that being non-white is no longer a barrier to success. If anything, they want to nominate as many black artists as possible, even if it's just to show how diverse they are. There was a ton of black artists here who I've never heard of and I do amateur music reviews. Black artists were hardly snubbed in general, it's just that GoldLink's personal choices were. Big difference. 2 minutes ago, Aphrodizy26 said: but it is. i don’t feel like arguing because i know for a fact you’re going to continue to be arrogant, but white performers can make it so much easier in the industry than black performers. In the past, yes. At the moment, white artists are struggling like never before. I've never seen so many white artists struggle to move past being a one hit wonder, struggling to get radio play, struggling to get promotional opportunities, struggling to get their new album out, struggling to sell tour tickets. There have been countless white artists in the last few years who had a big era with their first album and then downward spiralled. Think of Carly Rae Jepsen, Lorde, Iggy Azalea, Meghan Trainor, Dua Lipa, Ava Max. All one hit/one era wonders who can't get hits/can't release an album/got dropped and went independent/still trying to become superstars but not getting there. Things were even looking bleak for Ariana for a while when the public rejected Focus and she had to remake her album, it wasn't as big as her previous, Sweetener was a bit of a flop and she's only just made a return to to promiance. White girl/boybands never get nominated (1D have never been nominated, not as a band or as individuals, even when they got critical praise). As trap has taken over the charts, its resulted in a big downturn for white popstars and anyone making a non-urban sound, with very few exceptions. The industry always supports what's popular and right now, that's black artists. It's never been cooler to be black than it has been in the last few years. The likes of Kendrick Lamar, Beyonce, The Weeknd, Drake, Childish Gambino, Travis Scott, etc. have been widely beloved by public and critics alike and are at the top of their game. Even serial woman abuser Chris Brown is still getting top ten hits and reasonable sales despite his terrible reputation. And at the Grammys, they're all about nominating as many black artists as possible right now. One of the videos of the year is Gary Clark Jr singing a race anthem that has just over 3 million views in the 11 months its been uploaded. Beyonce got nominated for best pop album with her RnB album that had basically no sales to speak of. Lil Nas X got nominated for AOTY for an EP lasting just 18 minutes. Lizzo got a nomination for a 2 year old song (never done before in the history of Grammys) and has nominations for 2 songs that weren't singles and aren't clickable on Wikipedia. Don't look at data like that and tell me that black artists are being unfairly snubbed. If you want to look at who it's really hard for to make a name for themselves, especially in the eyes of the Grammys, look at non-American and non-English speaking artists. The Grammys are widely considered an American ceremony for a reason - almost all nominees and winners are English-speaking Americans. That's where the real prejudice lies. JustTea 6,171
Sounds so dumb that he's bitching about "lack of black noms", like seriously? That really sounds like abusing of equality, since there wasn't so many smash hits from black ppl iirc. OTR is literally the only one I can remember this year, but the album nom was not deserved... And even Bey got noms too (for compassion imo). Then, shouldn't there be more LGBTQ+ noms too?
