Kentucky might actually elect a Democratic Governor

I think the bigger story tonight is in Virginia.

Dems are sweeping with heavily gerrymandered districts by the GOP.

If the GOP lost this way imagine when Dems redraw them in a hopefully more fair manner. It’s over for the GOP there.

This is cool but you need the context:

The current GOP governor was widely unpopular due to his stance on Medicaid.

The Democrat running is also the son of the last governor who is a Democrat who was governor from 2007-2015.

Don’t get too excited about Dems sweeping elections everywhere in 2020.

That’s true but damn, Trump won by 30 points in 2016. I’m sure a simply unpopular R governor candidate would still win just by a small margin.

We also won the state Senate in Virgin and Mississippi governorship is still up for grabs the Democratic nominee actually has 45% with 55% of the precincts reporting.

Aren't senatorial elections by popular vote?

Actually, more counties with small cities and suburbs voted blue this time.

This shows a shift in the suburbs, which is important to note since these areas can heavily impact a general election (2020).

Also, Beshear is a popular governor’s son. He had name recognition behind him on top of an unpopular governor.

For all we know Trump could have boosted Bevin a bit but not enough to win.

Also important to note is the over 1,400,000 people voted. The last governor's race 930,000 people voted.

People are super energized to vote. They are realizing how much power they actually have. Even in red states.

These are state senate and house seats so they are by district!

I don't want to hear Midwesterners claim their votes don't count.

Andy Beshear is not that bad. Trump will still win the state by 25+ points in 2020:toofunny:

Virginia is doomed though.

Trump lost the popular vote by 2.9 million and won the election by roughly 77,000 votes across WI, MI, and PA combined. These midwesterners need to turn out because they matter. It’s a shame people think their votes don’t count.

I know poor Virginia. More gun control laws preventing unnecessary deaths, a minimum wage raise, and the legalization of marijuana should be able to pass now. The horror!!1!1!!1

This is the kind of negativity we don’t need right now. Kentucky will prevail! Our young people are turning this boomer state around. Believe in change.

If Kentucky can elect a democratic Governor, maybe they can also kick Turtle Moscow Mitch’s dirty saggy ass out of the senate. :enigma:

Here in Canada the Province if Alberta which elected the Conservatives for 40 years straight and last term finally elected the left wing NDP for a change

they elected the Conservatives again this year :messga:

but u get the point. Even the most right leaning regions sometimes decide to take a break and try something new :selena:
