Dont get me wrong i love ARTPOP. thoughts? what album of lady gaga or any other artist do you find great/good but not cohesive? edit: i love the songs on it it just that any song can make a new entire album concept. thats what i mean. It's pretty cohesive to me. The only songs that are a little out of place were Dope, J&D, and DWUW.

Lord Temptation 11,209
That was kind of the point sis. The Experiment: throw trap, techno, trop, house, disco, r&b, electro and rock into one pop explosion and see what happens? The Result: a kaleidoscopic, psychedelic celebration of sadness and madness. Oww I never thought of that way. But now that you guys said it. It makes more sense. that thinking is way ahead of the time. gagzus 16,009
I don’t think it’s meant to be cohesive sonically because it’s meant to be a bit messy because that was her mindset at the time, each song is influenced by a different EDM sub genre or other musical genre and it flows well and tells a story imo. Thematically it feels cohesive to me and feels like the compilation of all her ideas of fame. I’ve recently became obsessed with Warhol and I watched a lot of Andy Warhol documentaries lately, and now I finally understood her idea for it being a reverse of warhol, Warhol started what is essentially contemporary celebrity culture when it comes to obsession with image and persona, she wanted to take her persona and image and make her music and art the forefront instead of herself or the perception of herself, and put her public persona in her music (Aura, Donatello, Fashion!, etc) She wanted the era to be unreplicated but also having references to herself by giving us looks that were reimaginations of looks from within her career. Just like how warhol made repetitions of the same image she wanted to make referential imagery that was not replicated that’s why throughout the era she never had a consistent look or persona. Exactly. I get so worked up when people say that ARTPOP's concept never came through and that the sloppy execution and rollout reduced its thesis to simply "my ARTPOP could mean anything." No. It's absolutely true that the execution and rollout were sloppy and watered-down; who was to blame for that is somewhat unknown. Who made the final decision to change DWUW from a song Gaga wrote about using her as an artistic medium no matter how much it hurt her humanity into a song w/ an accused rapist about allowing a man to use her body in a physical way? Not sure anyone knows. But, regardless of what DIDN'T happen, the story that was meant to be told WAS told. She began the era with the "Lady Gaga is dead" meme, opened the album with the words "I KILLED MY FORMER," and her most powerful visual performances - Applause at VMAs and Applause MV - both showed her dismantling her former personas. ARTPOP successfully demonstrated that its artistic goal was to elevate pop to the same level as other artistic forms and make it about the music, and not the bling. Other art is so much less about the artist and so much more about the final piece of work. That was the goal. Unfortunately, the reworked DWUW, the move away from a visual album (serving up a MV for "Aura" even without it being the lead single would have helped introduce this entire concept), and the lack of releases to fully explore these ideas meant that what began with Applause never had a proper arc, climax, and conclusion. I also think that the Greek mythology tracks (Venus, GUY) clash a bit in both theme and message from others. But, that was bound to happen with an album that took so long to curate.
