I hate to agree with him but I do. I see your point, however, many people consider Facebook a "news" source and get much of their political influence from articles posted there. What AOC is leaning towards is the fact that FB should have some type of disclaimer or filter for political advertisements, considering so many voters use it as a news source. They're a commercial (and therefore private) entity. Their servers are not run or managed by the government. If they banned you, Fred down the street, or even Donald Trump tomorrow, the government could do absolutely nothing to stop it. "Freedom of speech" as a Constitutional principal in the US means that the government can't punish you for your speech. The end. That is all. -Your private employer can fire you -Your friend can call you a jerk -A private website can delete or censor your post NONE of that is Constitutionally protected. Now, people and companies can choose to individually adopt more inclusive philosophies and policies in regards to freedom of speech. But the entire debate that FB has any legal responsibility to free speech is foolishness. The only way FB is responsible for free speech is if they were nationalized into some sort of social media utility and became a government entity. I know that, which is why I did not say they have to go with what the constitution says. What I said is Zuckerberg chooses to go with what the constitution says which is a good thing in my opinion. I can agree with putting warnings to warn people of "fake news", youtube already does this. But I dont think thats what AOC is asking him to do. I think shes asking him to remove these videos or else he is a white supremacist alt right! And do we really want big tech corporations who also work with the military industrial complex for example to tell us what fake news is? and why not put these warnings on CNN and FOX too?
