reysus 1,064
I think this is one of the only times as a fan that she's truly shocked me. Like ofc I knew she could sing and was really talented, but the fact that the performance was literally perfect and was even in the original key blew my mind. It was her biggest moment for press and GP praise since at least 2011, if not earlier, and it felt like her career got new wings and ugh it was just amazing, so happy I was a fan during it

Bambino 24,321
Because back then, she showed absolutely everyone that she's stepping up her vocal and that she ain't just another pop girl following one musical direction. This was a career changing performance. This was a new Gaga beautifully presented to the public. Everybody praised the performance and her amazing voice. Suddenly she stopped being known only for being the weird singer who wore a meat dress at an award show.
Katharine Hepburn 4,607
My god, it was such a huge risk and Gaga killed it - imagine if she'd done badly it would have killed her career xoxo Joanne
mmmmonster 137
There are other artists with great voices but few will be as dedicated as she was to this performance, and she was respectful and loyal to Julie Andrews' rendition of it. She took on a huge risk and killed this iconic medley of songs that were performed by a beloved legend. I knew she had it in her (but of course I was still shook - I remember screaming "she really did THAT!" at the TV afterwards), but it meant so much to me that the rest of the world finally got to see and hear her raw talent. As the camera panned to the incredulous crowd giving her a standing ovation afterwards, I could see how many of them were stunned by her performance and saw her under a different light that night. That performance proved to the GP and the rest of Hollywood that she was a true star and not just a pop singer with a great voice. It sounds like the "why" here hinges a lot of the public perception of her (even though really, her talent is what made this performance a "best of" moment), but I just feel avenged as a stan at that moment when I felt like the world finally saw what we fans have seen and known forever. Ramoni Rovira 7
Ive seen tons of Gagas awards live performances. But this one is by far the most incredible. I still remember watching the Oscars knowing she would slay, but actually it was even better than I expected. I remember her singing the first two notes and thinking: WHAT? Is she able to sing that way? Really? Not to mention the epic finale. With the chorus, the orchestra. It will be in my heart forever. To me her best performance. WOW WHAT A MOMENT
