Guest Posted October 22, 2019 Share Posted October 22, 2019 Some of you aren't trans therefor do not understand how hurtful it can be to have even the smallest thing misgender you and trigger dysphoria. Those small things don't bother every trans person but it's okay for companies to look out for the ones that are hurt. The only deodorant that works for me is one that says "men's" on the package. I have tried so many other deodorants but not of them work well or they give me a rash. Every time I put it on I feel dysphoric. The scent is associated with men and I'm not a man. I feel dysphoric when I buy it because I have a product telling me that I am a man. I have nightmares about someone clocking me in the store over it and it leading to my death. That might sound extreme to some of you but it is a very real fear I have. My life expectancy is in my 30s because I will likely be murdered for being trans. I've lived half of my expected life already and I'm not even an adult yet. I understand how trans men would feel the same thing over menstrual products. Always isn't harming anyone by doing this small act of inclusion. Also, trans men are still men. Your body does not determine your gender and bioessentialism is transphobic. Not all trans men can afford hormones. That doesn't make them less trans. Not all trans men stop their periods when they do start hormones. Trans men can be harassed and attacked if someone finds out they are buying period products for themselves. Nonbinary and intersex people can experience all of this too. I also would suggest that some people in this thread watch YouTube videos about trans men. I feel like I live in a bubble coming from my background, and my upbringing in Sweden. Being open minded and kind, and trying to understand that binaries and borders between genders are constructs, is honestly not that hard.
