AdmistTheLight 2,269
I think it lies in the way Gaga is as an artist, she is very much a vocalist and melodies driven. You can say it's her preference. For example, Billie's Burry a Friend have a very unusual structure, but it worked because it's driven by the beat and fits her style of whisper/ almost spoken poetry delivery. With Gaga, you always hear the melody. Even in "Moth through the flame", the way she sings it is very much metal but you can follow the melody much easier compare to Metallica. And that delivery work best in a more conventional song structure. One criticism Gagadaily had earlier on with Shallow is how "weird" sounding the transition between Bradly and Gaga verses. Shallow has a unconventional song structure that break melodic flow usually heard in typical ballads. At the end of the day, she can experiment with different things, but Gaga will go for what sound good with her voice. Liberaté mi amor
Franch Toast 27,124
I think it depends on how you define experimental. I'm not in a position to say how experimental the music itself may or may not be, but lyrically, I would say some of her songs are experimental. She pushes boundaries, both in terms of genre conventions, and also in terms of what is "acceptable" material to write about in a pop song. Aside from her songs, however, I think as others already have pointed out on this thread, her career itself could be considered experimental – certainly, she's not a conventional pop star, much to the chagrin of many of her fans at times. Itsbrenda 2,983
I agree with you but unfortunately she talks the talk more then walks the walk in that area. I’m not hating, she just released her most conventional album (ASIB) and I think it’s incredible, maybe her best. the reality is though that she loves the life she has (fair) and has a record label that let play around a bit but she has to bring in the money.. if she went all Bjork on us Interscope & her bank account wouldn’t thrilled
