Have you looked into how much it takes and how they make those “eco friendly trains“ lmao 😂 the steel, the energy, the petroleum needed to make parts.... but you do Greta ...

Are you actually trying to argue that public transport is more damaging to the environment than using cars? :toofunny: It takes a lot to make a train but the alternative of using a car is MUCH more environmentally damaging, no matter which way you look at it. It’s not all or nothing, she’s doing HER part in reducing her carbon footprint.

Anyway, you still haven’t answered why you lied in your OP. The irony of calling someone else an actor when you’re delivering an Oscar-winning performance right here. :deadbanana:

There’s no ethical consumption under capitalism.

She is advocating for politicians and the rich elite to change their ways to protect our planet from becoming an environmental wasteland. It’s the top 100 companies that are destroying the planet, not us.

You using a throwaway plastic straw isn’t doing any harm. The companies that make them in excess, and distribute them are the ones doing harm. However, the media likes to blame us for using them, not the companies for still making them in bulk.

Calling Greta a hypocrite for using single use plastic is just contributing to the social problem. Whether we like it or not, plastic and other things are everywhere, and it would be almost impossible to buy 100% environmentally friendly products unless you have lots of excess money.

And that leads me to my first point again... there is NO ETHICAL CONSUMPTION under capitalism. A vegan/vegetarian shouldn’t get mad at a poor person for eating meat or animal based products; because they probably can’t afford the luxury of shifting their diet to a vegan lifestyle. This applies to the plastic argument as well: it’s everywhere. We have to live with it because all affordable things come in plastic.

The best thing we can do is rise up against the elite and dismantle their structures. They are the ones doing bad, not us. And don’t let the media tell you otherwise.

She reminds me of Jon-Benet Ramsay, the way the “adults” around her paraded her and turn her into a spectacle. I have no opinion of her, because she is only a child, still finding her sense of self. But what everyone else around her is doing is child exploitation.

Her parents are actors and Greta is also listed as one on IMDB so there's a bit of a trust issue there.

You do know IMDb lists someone as an "actor" after they appeared on at least one film right? Well take a look at her profile https://www.imdb.com/name/nm10361418/ She has 18 credits in which she performs HERSELF, and many of them are daily shows. She also participated in documentaries relating to the environment--again, as herself. She has one Thanks credit, in SNL, which brings me to the fact that a person can also appear on IMDb after he or she was thanked on a TV show or movie. It only requires that much. Also, many people who are not actors under any scope of the word are listed as actors in IMDb. For example:

Donald Trump: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0874339/?ref_=nv_sr_1?ref_=nv_sr_1

Michelle Obama: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm2349292/?ref_=nv_sr_1?ref_=nv_sr_1

Bill Clinton: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001051/?ref_=nv_sr_2?ref_=nv_sr_2

Ava Max: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm10242824/?ref_=nv_sr_2?ref_=nv_sr_2

and others. You can look it up.

Edit: Please do your reasearch before spilling up things like this one. There's also a Snopes article on the subject: https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/thunberg-actress-estella-renee/

I thought that would be the case tbh. Its mainly the parents that people are suspicious of. I personally don't believe she is being used as a puppet but we should still keep an eye on her and them.

I think she's very intelligent although it always makes me uncomfortable to see someone so young put into the spotlight like this. It may be very overwhelming for her. I know she's 16 but she looks and sounds much younger and I just think she could be rather vulnerable. I think maybe people can find her a bit jarring or pretentious due to her slightly stilted way of talking because English isn't her first language and because she's autistic. These two things put together can give a very different social impression as opposed to someone who had no issues with public speaking. Her message is pretty apocalyptic but it's not far off. I don't know how much we can keep on saying this stuff until something is done and we need something to wake people up. My uncle's always been a man of science, proud atheist, operates on logic and reason...and he think global warming is somewhat of a myth. It blows my mind that contradictory people like this exist. Yes, humans can only do so much and the planet will do its own thing regardless but that doesn't mean that we should hurry up the inevitable. We've got to make the planet a viable place to live while humankind still exists. Why wouldn't you want to make the space you occupy clean and healthy for as long as you're living on it? But then it's no surprise that this kind of thinking tends to come from older people with no children. They won't be here for decades to come and don't have anyone to pass this world onto, so what do they care? I wish more people would address their subconscious ego.

She’s a young girl who’s used her voice loud enough to be heard which is commendable. As Op mentioned there may be elements that are contradictory but wow I don’t think anyone on earth is as virtuous as THAT, everyone needs to get around etc. The big contradiction is what puts people off speaking out, imagine Gaga becoming vocal about climate change she would be ripped to shreds and perhaps rightfully so. It many ways it is down to people like Greta or fellow nobodies to speak up because ain’t nobody else doing it.

I support her message, I think it's admirable that someone of her age is actually doing something for this world.

On the other hand, for some reason, every time I see her face I want to die... Don't @ me.

I agree with the message generally but something about the execution of it rubs me the wrong way. It feels like an agenda is being pushed on the back of a child. A bit too fear mongering for me.

The girl has been creating different opinions between the people that agree with her and the ones that don’t...

I personally find her very pretentious, the fact that you’re “too passionate” for certain subject but you are not willing to take 100% loyalty to your preaching...

She is still using products that affect the environment (Plastic, petroleum, foam) while flying planes and public transportation that actually damage the environment more than a regular car... she hasn’t made a transition to have a better Climate Change yet she’s trying to make others change their ways all this while getting paid and offered a comfortable living environment... ok gurl...:poot:
