A Hybrid

Hi. Idk if GagaDaily is the right door to knock in this case, but some of you have really interesting tastes in music so might as well try, right?

I’m looking for new albums to listen to and the genre is not important. I just want one thing:

It should be an actual album. All of the songs need to be clearly centered around the same narrative (like “The ArchAndroid” - Janelle Monae) or setting (like “Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino” by Arctic Monkeys) or even just the same theme (like Melodrama by Lorde), although the first two are more appreciated.

Thank you for the help :rockstar:

Well I was already hoping that it’d be helpful for other members to find good alternative concept albums, so that’s great :vegas:

for others interested, here’s one that I love: Actor by St. Vincent

It’s told from the perspective of a suburbian wife who tries to live her dull life and look happy, yet she’s depressed in reality and has a lot of problems. The album’s made of quite dark lyrics on top of cute melodies, sometimes followed by a storm of electronic guitar. It’s quite a good listen.

Recto Verso is a really good concept album and also you might interest in George Michel Song From The Last Century or Older albums.

And my other favorite alternative albums are So Tonight That I Might See by Mazzy Star and Suspiria's soundtrack album and also you might love Pery Blake's all albums but my favorite is California.

LP1 by FKA Twigs. It doesn't have a narrative but it's very cohesive in sound and is alternative/ experimental. Maybe also check her EPs too if you aren't necessary looking for a full lengh album: EP1, EP2 and Melissa.

Art Angels by Grimes. Again, it doesn't have a narrative but it's cohesive thematically and sonically.

Jenny Hval's new album, The Practice of Love is really good!

It's not my favorite by her, but it's the most accessible I feel. I love all her other albums, check out Blood Bitch if you want something darker

Someone (edit: just realised it was you lol) already suggested Actor by St. Vincent, but I suggest you give a listen to Strange Mercy

If you're down for some queer music, check out Perfume Genius! I recommend No Shape and Too Bright

It wouldn't hurt if you try some Sufjan Stevens as well!

Cloudbusting

Tatanic Rising by Weyes Blood.... It's so amazinggg (Deserves AOTY). I don't think it has a narrative but the sound and the cohesiveness is outstanding. The song andromeda feels like you are floating in space.

El mal querer by Rosalía.... Okay this one is a concept album that tells a story of a book in which a woman is trapped inside an abusive relationship. The language barrier my be an obstacle, but I also don't speak spanish and really enjoyed it (I just searched for the translation). The arrangements are also very interesting and forward thinking
