Taylor Swift said she listened to ARTPOP a lot while recording 1989, but curiously not even mentioning it when she was promoting the album. Yet the only reason why people say ARTPOP  had no impact is because Gaga suffered a press blackout and the album was declared DOA at the time by the media. Nobody even mentioned her name, except of course to attack her. But in the years since, many publications have published reappraisals saying how wrong they were. ARTPOP literally keeps getting more and more significant, now that we have the gift of hindsight. The toxicity of Tumblr in 2013 won’t be remembered.

Not only that, many of the artists that are inspired by ARTPOP haven’t even begun their careers yet.

Hence nothing was written about ARTPOP’s legacy at the time. But in the years since, many publications have published reappraisals saying how wrong they were. Please. Let's be real - ARTPOP was jumping on a EDM trend that was dying in late 2013. It didn't have a distinctive sound. It had a (relatively) distinctive era, and that's why monsters seem to iconise. The concept of putting art and pop together was quite innovative (for the popular music scene of the 2010s) but was missing from 2/3rds of the album.

To make my point more valid, music critics were quite lukewarm in their reviews. 61 on metacritic is quite a weak score, and don't tell me that critics were biased. The music itself just wasn't as good as it could be, and people noticed that.

I don't like to critique Gaga, especially here, because people can be very biased. Obviously if I am here I love her music very much. But we are getting closer and closer to being delusional Nicki Minaj stans.

Dated? ARTPOP sounds better than almost everything released in 2019. Hell, it sounds better than almost everything from 2013 onwards. All great albums are slept on at the time, but they get better with time as people keep returning to listening to it and learning new things. John Mayer, Lily Allen and many other artists have since praised it as being brave and ahead of the time. ARTPOP was never dated, gurl. Only your opinion is, because you’re clearly stuck in 2013.

I’m not even going to argue with you anymore. You clearly have no idea what good music sounds like and even more clearly, you can’t accept another person’s point of view.

Can we move on? I’m sure Gaga has never even heard a Charli song unless she happened to be at my local mall and had to take a poo in the Forever 21 restrooms :bye:

She said DWUW was her fave Gaga song

So? Most people only listen to singles not albums.
