I've tried to educate myself on the subject, I've read many people who identify as non-binary, but I still fail to see the point of it. In my current opinion it just reinforces stereotypes between genders. The way I see it, "he" /"she" is merely used to know if you refer to a male or a female, no social constructs associated with it. To me it just seems so much easier to just say "hey, he can do what he wants, she can do what she wants, don't let society put them in a box, let's all be in one giant box and let's have fun" then say "hey, let's keep him in a box, keep her in another box, and let's make a third box for them where they'll be free".   I actually agree with you. I wish that gender stereotypes were a thing of the past and instead of feeling the need to change how you identify, I wish people could just dress, act, and be whoever they are, no matter the sex they are born as. But I also understand why some people feel the need to. The "entitled idiots" I'm referring to are the countless people flooding this thread with ignorant, rude, and disrespectful comments towards the choice that HE has made for HIMSELF. Having a discussion on labels and society's outlook on gender is fine. Making fun of someone for choosing to live a certain way is another; nothing beneficial will come from that. Whether you agree with or not, it's none of anyone's business what Sam Smith would like to be referred to as.

Why am i shocked y'all are reacting this way now. Because weâre not a bunch of sheeps or s to blindly follow or accept something that clearly makes no sense, in fact itâs insulting for our intelligence. OT: Rather than asking someone for their preferred pronoun and memorize their random response, just ask for their names, itâs easier to call them by that.
giskardsb 12,565
We need a new pronoun. They and Them are basically plural except in specific context.
whocares 2,122
Iâm going to delete my posts. Not because I changed my mind. But because I realize this is a sensitive topic and some members are being hurt by the way in which some of us have reacted to this. As a victim of bullying myself, Iâm not ok with this. Thereâs a better way to have a discussion regarding this.

You say "someone's lost their phone", because it's neither male or female because you don't know at that point. It's the same with they/them as a gender pronoun, neither male nor female.

So using that pronoun on someone whoâs right infront of you doesnât make sense. Using âitâ would make more sense that âthem/theyâ.
