No other Gaga song so perfectly captures raw emotion as Dope and in my opinion, it's her absolute best song (although my favourites are probably the most controversial ever) and I think the song is a masterpiece. It receives way too much hate and is a beautifully written ballad, better than Million Reasons, Brown Eyes or even dare I say... Pop Music 20,540 Posted August 31, 2019 Share Posted August 31, 2019 it is emotionally draining to listen to for me so I don't listen to it regularly but it is incredible and by far her standout ballad from her studio albums (INLA or Is That Alright beat it out in terms of ballads but they are really allys ballads so I don't put them on the same scale) Pop Music and Lady Gaga forever! I know its emotional for her and she was drunk , but the live versions of Dope are far more superior. The performances at Roseland and Alan Carr (one of my favorite performances of all time) really should've been close to the version we got. It's a great song, but I prefer the live version. And the whole mix of it being a ballad with EDM influences does not go at all. Lyrically its not bad, but sonically its pretty bad I Wanna Be With You should have replaced it and been a piano only song.
