Capitalism blah blah blah that’s for a different discussion.

Pop Music

I think this is great for girls to play with strong, historical, independent women instead of barbie with her plastic perfect little self.

Spoiler

I mean I do love a barbie moment hello I am a hunty and grew up playing with barbies but I do think it's important to show the diversity as well as a powerful boss women move in history.

You really can't see what this means huh? I imagine if I had grown up with the option to choose Rosa Parks, rather than abstain again from getting a stick thin doll with straight hair and blue eyes. Even on the very rare occasion the skin tone was darker than creamed coffee -- still the eyes blue and hair long and straight. Wtf  :saladga:

So yes, they will profit from my and other's purchase. In the same way we buy mags we don't even read, because the publishers need to "see" putting women of color on their covers is viable. Because profit/money/the bottom line is the only thing that motivates companies, even when they are doing the right thing for the other

There are some things you just don't do.

This is a good thing.

Does it come with some educational information?

Each of the Inspiring Women Barbie dolls come with information about each women inside the box (with planfits) and behind the box and some sub-text in-front of the box detailing who each woman is and what they've done to contribute to society

So I'll elaborate. I just sincerely hope there's at least an insert of some sort with a write-up. The post, caption, hashtags have absolutely no reference to historical significance, culture, POC, etc. Just a focus on fashion and dolls.

yes, i do know what it means. as i said in the second line.

and you just pointed out the problem. once it doesn't profit anymore they'll drop it and have the power to lead important subjects like the ones brought by model above into obscurity again. so yes, it is important to see beyond the representation figure so it doesn't fall flat and becomes a fade.

the issue about trends is that they're fluid and die fast. social movements becoming trends are problematic for this.

but I just red above these inspirational dolls come with educational programs, so at least there's some job to make them being remembered for their history and not just a style figure

I don't think there can be a debate about this. Dolls don't really matter, there are dolls of every ethnicity but the white ones are more prominent, but it changes nothing overall what doll you play with, as a kid it's just a tool for your own imagination
