Earth Must Be 100% Clean Energy In 30 Years To Meet Paris Agreement!

This same article discussing a surge in solar power as costs plummet also went into an update on Global Warming statistics

 

Based on new data, if the world is not 100% carbon free on energy usage by middle of century (approximately 30 years) the Paris Agreement will not be met... In addition we have only roughly a decade left to begin a rapid decline in overall emissions

 

Not to cause panic, this does not mean Earth's environment would necessarily face an ecological collapse if energy is not 100% Carbon Free in 30 years...

 

But it would mean that the specific goal set to not let Earth warm up more than 1.5 degrees celcius (close to 3F) above pre-industrials levels would fail

 

It is unclear how much Earth would have to warm up by to cause an irreversible trend that would lead to massive ecological collapse. Estimates vary from as low as 2C while other scientists say it's more like 3C or 4C

 

Either way, were going closer and closer towards the danger zone. Once it warms up enough for permafrost to melt in big enough amounts, the amount of carbon and methadone released into air would cause the earth to keep warming even if we cut all emissions. In addition the lost ice in article would cause less sun deflection and more heat absorption into water also fueling the trend.

I mean as far as oil goes... Electric cars keep getting better and cheaper... Hopefully soon they will make economic sense even without subsidies

 

Coal... I think either banning it or a carbon tax as adopted by some Nations would be the most realistic

 

I mean my Province (Ontario) hardly uses any coal anymore... It's all Nuclear, Water-Hydro, Natural Gas and some Wind and Solar

 

We have one of the most expensive electricity costs in North America tho

 

In the Province of Quebec for example electricity is less than half the cost

True some green innitiatives are not as economical as the dirty way of doing things but the long term cost of increased storm natural disasters and decreased crop returns from either increased flooding or droughts outways any cost of green investments now

 

I don't believe civilization would end the way many ppl dramatize cuz humans are a super adaptable species. Were the only mammal species capable of surviving in every continent thanks to technology

 

Most of the earth would have to be dead before humans were wiped out along with it

 

But I do think our standard of living can drop a lot as food costs would surge and natural disaster costs would surge as well not to mention lost cities by the Coast which would have to either spend a fortune on levies, or people would spend a fortune relocating and loosing the real-estate they invested in
