MR had the word "Lord" in it which is the reason radios refused to play it as much, at least until the Super Bowl, then they were getting complaints from people that they weren't playing it enough, so they started playing the song regularly

Then, The Cure was just counted as a basic tropical pop song so it wasn't super highly praised, but that's obviously not very controversial  :laughga:

Ironically that was just the fans complaining after wanting Gaga to go back to pop because Joanne was such a quiet album lol. Everyone outside the Little Monster community were praising The Cure.

I've always felt Paparazzi is her biggest non-Top 5 hit, and probably her biggest hit after JD, PF, BTW, BR, Tele, and Shallow. Its name recognition is far greater than its chart placement, the VMA performance was a pop culture moment, and it continues to be played on radio/covered/referenced over 10 years later. It certainly has the aura of a No. 1 even if it never got there.

But DWUW has "number one smash" written ALL OVER IT. Should've solely featured Xtina, or gone with an up-and-comer (at the time) like The Weeknd, or a different R&B artist like Usher. Truly her biggest hit that got away.

Applause should be on that list :queenga:
I guess it's not really controversial, but it should have been Nr 1, so... it should just be on every list :queenga:

Also, (so far) no votes for The Cure :laughga:
WHERE'S YOUR GOD NOW, CURE STANS, HUH? I rest my case :flower:

It's a joke! When you give me that look, it's a joke!

DWYW could’ve been a huge hit tbh it had a lot of potential I remember hearing it on the radio all the time R. Kelly is trash but he was good in the song... should’ve been with X Tina or The Weeknd as one user mentioned before it could’ve been such a smash ugh:messga:

Alejandro was the best "summer track" she has ever released.  (Since she doesn't seem to release summer songs  anymore:saladga: ).

Would have loved for it to do better than #5 (as it had done "better"  elsewhere).  Amurica just wasn't ready for that sexy, Ace of Base, ABBA, La Isla Bonita, realness she served up.  Not to mention the synths and catchy lyrics.  We may have deserved two videos -- the original and a "literal" interpretation of the lyrics for the general public (Gaga with some Latinx men on the beach, cigarette and all). Loved California Gurls that year but, damn, Gaga's "Fear of Men" monster and creative video couldn't shook the crowd back then? :messga:
