yeah the chorus is generic pop

but the rest... it's a conceptual piece, is not always gonna be "pleasant" to listen to

i get it that you can say that for every other song to avoid the evidence that it is shitty, but i think it reflects the rigidness and monossilabicness of military, or maybe the broken english of an imigrant

It's not as deep as it's trying to be. It's supposed to be a critique of the American culture but it doesn't really say much. If anything Madonna talks more about herself. It's a classic case where the intention and the execution don't match. It's admirable that Madonna was standing up to something as vile as war but that music is some of the worst I've ever heard.

I was actually just listening to this song this is creepy... :gum:

Well, it would be if I didnt listen to this masterpiece nearly every day. Tbh this whole album moves me so much, just like Madame X does. I know its sharp and aggressive, and not an easy listen but I just adore everything about it. I love so many Madonna albums but these two just really cut to my core in a way nothing else has. Not that they are definitely my favorite, because she has an album for every mood. when im needing a good cry and to let out some built up aggressions and tensions, as well as be very introspective and deep i listen to these albums. Just as when I really want to feel good without listening to mindless music, and just feel free, i listen to Confessions.

Damn I went off topic. And went on.... Lol k bye

Bitch I'm Madonna

There is this rock remix in an official ep where the rap is like the chorus and it's dope sorry of it offends the American dream but I think it's deep

the message is great but it I agree it just doesn't sound pleasing to the ear and it's the only of her pre MDNA songs that make me cringe

I understand why you feel that way. When American Life came out I only cared about the instrumental so the song didn’t really catch my attention at that time, I was around 13 back then so I was exploring music and had listened to Madonna (Ray of Light, Music, Like a Prayer) so if it wasn’t a catchy song, I wasn’t interested, the rap part also turned me off. Years later I revisited back this album because had only listened to Hollywood (Part of the Britney/Christina kiss performance) and Confessions had come out so it had been forgotten for a while.

Now I understand that that was the whole intention of it. It’s disturbing, it’s in your face, it’s aggressive and that’s pretty much what Madonna does, not to mention the music video, she has always had balls and it’s sad to see that this song and music video could be released today and still fit with what is going on in the world.
