Didn't she scrap the original concept for ARTPOP after playing it for her label and they rejected half the content? So she threw together a new album that was all over the place (but more commercial) as a **** you and a way to say "I can make commercial music and still have creative control"

Edit: hence the album not including Tea, Sire, Tinnitus, etc which she had already told fans would be on the album

Again: the large majority of the songs she wrote in 2012, incl. Donatella and MJH  Do your research people.

You actually think record labels exist to support artists, not lock them up and rob them of their creativity? :sure:

The naivety :sure:

That’s different from actively sabotaging her though :emma: They lock her up to make money not lose it.

Research where? :laughga:    Am I supposed to sit through hours and hours of old video interviews and reading old written interviews from scans that are now lost and buried deep in the internet and find fans who were backstage talking to her 7 years ago? All we have at this point are our collective memories to recall upon to put together fragments of a story that only Gaga herself truly lived. And sure Gagapedia can help, but that resource is also limited and not 100% accurate.

"do your research" :laughga:

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

The vocal melody and lyrics are still different so Donatella as we know is her creation, same with all the other ARTPOP songs.

Maybe I'm more invested in her than other people but I don't know, I just figured that everyone sort of knew when these songs were written  All through 2012 there was massive fan speculation about half the tracklist already, I didn't expect people to just forget that. We never had any confirmation about what was scrapped and what wasn't when she played the album to Interscope in June.

As far as I can piece together the timeline, Gaga was still on track to release two volumes for ARTPOP and could've possibly been working on more songs even after she played "the" or one of the album(s). The story of Interscope scrapping half the project is pure fan fiction.

Sorry if I came across rude  I just can't at fans making up all these kinds of excuses instead of just admitting that Gaga bought fully finished instrumentals to sing over, like that's kind of some crime :ladyhaha: Not saying you were doing the same, but I have no doubt many people would use your post (even if it was a question and not a statement of fact) to "defend" her (why does she need defending?) even if they don't know the facts and don't care about the facts.

Some people still don't get she's a pop star just like everybody else.

They sabotaged her knowing full well that she would still sell millions despite all the negative critical press they would unleash. Gaga was still a cash cow and they milked her, but they also turned her into a laughing stock. It’s called backstabbing. Profit from someone while you humilate them - it’s also common in the p*rn industry.

Hello gurl, where did the rumours of ARTFLOP costing Interscope $20 million in losses come from? From Interscope.

:oprah:

I mean, I'm intrigued by your theory but I don't get what Interscope is supposed to get out of that. Like, what's their motivation? To be able to sell her up again big time with C2C and create a whole resurrection storyline?

The important thing to remember is: she tried to do that with BTW. Remember those early interviews about ARTPOP when she was still on tour and when she claimed that ARTPOP was her "first real album" (I'm sure almost everyone here forgot about that) and that, unlike when she was writing BTW, she was writing from a place of personal happiness and creativity?

She repeated that shtick with C2C, AHS, Joanne ánd ASIB. It's just her go to. Sell your upcoming project like it's the most meaningful of your life. That makes me think Interscope didn't "plan" her to go down but simply made the best of it when she was going down. Doesn't that sound a little more realistic? Why all the planning, the app creation,... to be intentionally underperforming?

I guess my question to you is: why backstab her as a label? What's their profit?

Her label (or rather, factions within her label) backstabbed her because (a) they could afford to and (b) spite. Their “profit” was her almost quitting pop music. The money is unimportant to them, they still get paid at the end of the day. That is why labels are able to fund sooooo many bad and unprofitable acts. It’s all about control. Gaga was getting too big for the boardroom, especially with her free your mind art pop talk. They were worried about how other artists would perceive Gaga’s would-be rebellion. So they tried to contain her.

I mean she just broke her hip and her label were demanding music from her I honestly don't blame her. The songs are great anyways

I’m not condemning her for using instrumentals but Donatella, Mary Jane Holland, Aura and DWUW were all from before she broke her hip.

Both songs are produced by Zedd (same with MJH with Madeon and The Good Natured) - They just reworked something they already did.  Its not uncommon amongst producers.

Thank you. Anything you make is a tool in your toolbox you can use on anything you want. It's theirs

But wasn't that the point of ARTPOP though? Using an already existing body of art to produce a consumable music for the biggest POP icon of the era?
