Didymus 34,380
"Right-wing politicians in France mocked the 16-year-old climate change campaigner Greta Thunberg as a “guru of the apocalypse” before boycotting her appearance in the French parliament. Legislators from the conservative Les Republicains and far-right Rassemblement National parties refused to attend the session and hurled a series of insults at the teenager – calling her the “Joan of Arc of climate change”, the “Justin Bieber of ecology” and a “prophetess in shorts”." "Speaking in English, Ms Thunberg said children like her have become "the bad guys" for daring to tell politicians "uncomfortable things" about climate change." — "Some people have chosen not to come here today, some have chosen not to listen to us and that is fine, we are after all just children, you don’t have to listen to us. But you do have to listen to the scientists, that is all we ask." Source Source #2 Watch the full speech below:
Didymus 34,380
Ironically, this boycott occurred while France was (and still is) crumbling beneath the weight of a record breaking heatwave

audrey horne 1,180
Far-right members (RN), conservatives (LR) and liberals (Macron's LREM) were all quick to lecture about how a child is supposed to go to school rather than giving conferences for the future of this planet. As always, missing willfully the very point. Remember "make our planet great again" ? Well, nothing happened in France. Law after law, environnement actions and social rights worsen here. Like CETA, just adopted today an hour after Greta spoke to assembly. In the end of the day, Macron's whole government are just capitalists slaves, serving lobbies and financials interests first and laughing dismissively at a child facing issues and embracing the inescapable battle against human cowardice. Live from a northern french city which comes to live its highest temperature recorded ever today.

CautiousLurker 19,709
Damn, how insecure and sensitive do you have to be about your political stance to refuse to attend a session just because a 16yo girl was gonna be there It's a joke! Miel 15,009
It's crazy how there's like literal scientific proof at every turn regarding the detriment of climate change. Hell, my undergraduate thesis, which was by no means a large scale project, and didn't even look directly at climate change, insinuated the effects of climate change on specific estuarine microcosms, and its effects on microevolutionary adaptations on certain fish. Like... sh*t is absolutely real, and it's crazy that it's become such a polarizing issue. It's literally shaping up to become a life or death situation, oh my goodness. 3 points in and ready for more
