a four and a half minute African inspired ballad is more commercial than an easy to swallow country pop song? Okay.

Waka waka is kinda the same thing with the exception that it was a bop

Lol #2 is hardly a flop.

If you place Beyoncé on the same level as Selena, Demi, etc., I agree.

Spirit is a safe and bland R&B ballad. It's probably the safest single she has released since IASF/4. Shallow on the other hand is a country ballad whose chorus doesn't set in until the song is halfway through. :smh:

nnn not you trying to make shallow out to be some complex song :bradley:

It's a generic country pop ballad and is in no way hard to digest. :toofunny:

Just like Spirit is a generic R&B pop ballad with an even more generic song structure? :smh: Go off, Beyonce stan.

It's really, really not. A folk/rock ballad with borderline live vocals and crowd sounds SMASHING worldwide in the context of an rnb 2018/2019 pop climate is nothing short of amazing. Stop trying to downplay it.

Don’t fight with the Beyhive on twitter guys. They’re terribly racist and are using racial slurs against Asian stans. I did not expect this at all. :air:

They invented Mayochella, what can you expect from them?

RNB pop climate? Where? The top 10 is either pop or rap. It's been like that for the past year.  It's a generic pop song with a repetitive chorus. It's literally nothing that special. I'm not downplaying anything, just being realistic.

I'd also like to add: I love both songs but y'all's obnoxious behavior is just getting annoying and tired.

Not defending them but monsters literally call Beyonce and her family monkey's and constantly call her fans BeyHIV+.

Yet they are the first ones to call out people for racism if somebody dares to criticize their fave. They really should take the L and go stream The Gift. Their fave needs it.

Are you really trying to suggest Shallow sounded like remotely anything doing well on pop radio at the moment. Just stop, sis. :rip:

Also, generic my ass. Listen to the song again.

Not sure how you got any of that from what I've said/been saying :toofunny:

I'm saying shallow isn't some complex song and is just like literally every other pop song. On the radio or not.

He's not :smh: He's saying that despite the song having a different sound (which is not the same as a different genre) than what's on the radio, Shallow is still formulaic and easy listening and not "experimental" or "different" at all when you break it down to composition level.

Spirit is also formulaic btw, I'm not denying it is. But Shallow isn't its opposite. It's its equal :emma: And that's what many LMs can't admit because they somehow believe that Shallow is some prog rock song. Y'know, the same people who called FourFiveSeconds a Taylor Swift song :reductive:
