I became a fan after I hear Primadonna and fell in love when I heard Mowgli's Road. Still among my top 10 fav songs of all time :flutter:

I sang How To Be A Heartbreaker during my audition for Animal Farm. :flutter:

I didn't change the lyrics from "boys" to "girls" either. I felt so empowered in front of everyone. :whitney:

I met her in a dream I had a couple nights ago. I couldn't stop hugging her.

I find it annoying. It reminds me of that 2008/2009 era light indie-pop **** that every gay guy that was anti-top 40 would get into because it made them seem alternative (i.e. Bird + the bee, Au Revoir Simone, etc). Its not a bad song, I can see why people like it, I just have my own personal annoyances with how it sounds lol

The entire album is indie pop and that's why I love it so much.

From The Family Jewels I only listen to and love those songs I posted. The rest is just not good to my tastes. I find How To Be A Heartbreaker to be full of life and Radioactive to be dead. I think it's really interesting how different people's opinions can be. Hollywood gets on my nerves, I think it's just the way it is sung and not actually the song itself.

I'm clearly in the minority, but The Family Jewels is still my favorite album :flop:

Starring Role I connect with lyrically, especially at the moment. But the production overall to me just makes it sort of bland. Its like quasi-generic but kind of boring at the same time. It sounds dreary.

So its odd to me that many fans tend to criticize her more "generic" or accessible songs and favor ones that are far more drab and lifeless solely because they can't easily be categorized as Top 40 b/s. They're all lyrically on par with one another for the most part, why prefer something just because it doesn't sound typical even if its not as good?

THEN AGAIN, one of my favorite tracks off Electra Heart is Fear and Loathing and I can see people saying that song is dull.

The lyrics for Starring Role are extremely relatable. As for the production, Marina even said that it was intentionally...cold, like the lyrics themselves. But tbh, I love the chords they chose for the songs. I think it makes it so epic. It's funny that she'd say that she liked the production on it, yet as far as I know, she only performed the song with the studio instrumental (not the slow version until it hits the bridge) just once :emma: It's actually really interesting hearing the album version of the song and with backing vocals too! Watch it below. A lot of people don't know she's ever performed the song this way haha

Ugh. I don't understand why people hate on Fear and Loathing so much. It's freaking incredible. Easily one of my top tracks of Electra Heart.

I love Starring Role. I agree with the production issue, but for me it's more of an issue on the album overall. Too many songs sound similar and this has been carried onto Froot also.

Thanks so much! Your avi's awesome too. I'm doing quite well lately, thanks! How about you?

Solitaire's intro and verses are dark and satisfying, and the chorus kind of pulls you out of that for something uncharacteristically less somber. Not to say that it's the musical representation of sunshine and daisies, but the flow of the song is disrupted and, in my opinion, the correlation of lyrics and the sound of the song is broken at that point.

This is exactly how I feel about Solitaire, Blue and Better Than That tbh. The verses build you up to something amazing and they just don't get themselves redeemed because the chorus feels rather out of place.

That's interesting! I find that Blue is just the right amount of climactic (except the chorus could be longer) and BTT's verses could be better because the chorus is pretty catchy.

Are you saying BTT's chorus should be better than that? :derpga:
