I've been trying to explain this since the moment I found out about her. O___o

If you think this is strange, you should look up random photos of her. She usually looks like a completely different person from photo to photo.

If I didn't know better, I would think Marina and The Diamonds is actually a group of like 10 different people posing as one.

Maybe she has lots of twins :lolgaga:

I love Marina and Lana. They are definitely both their own artists with their own styles, but I don't get how you can say that Lana seems vacuous. Whenever she sings live, it sounds like she's dying. There are a lot of things you could say about Lana's singing, but the last of them I would expect is that it sounds empty.

This performance doesn't sound empty to me. Maybe you don't like her singing, but I don't see how you can accuse of her lacking emotion.

She's vacuous. Her music is vacuous. Her lyrics are vacuous. She's a trendy pretentious rich hipster girl that got a record contract and thinks shes deep. Shes not deep. The only reason people buy into her bull**** is because she dresses retro, uses vintage vignettes, and her songs are slow. Its all just bull**** though. Her pathetic excuse for singing doesn't require emotion.

She wrote more of Born to Die than Marina did on Electra Heart. Her dad might have been rich, but that doesn't mean she isn't an incredible talent. She always sings live, writes all of her music, and is directly involved in the production process. Rich or poor, I respect a brilliant composer when I see one. Money is irrelevant. Both Marina and Lana are underrated gems in the music industry and aren't appreciated for their talents.

You have to look beyond surface value. If you only look at the surface I could see why you would think Lana is substantial. But she isn't, I give absolutely no ****s how many words she wrote or how many performances she does live with her awful vocals. She is not talented. She is not deep. She is nothing but a superficial stereotypical hipster faux-intellectual with music and an image to match. Marina is genuine. Lana is not. Its not about money but of course you would focus in on the fact that I mentioned she was rich. I could give a **** how rich she is ultimately, because in the end what she makes does not live up to the hype nor does it evoke anything genuinely refreshing or worthy of critical acclaim. She's a trend soaking idiot.

if she wasn't talented she wouldn't be where she is now...regardless of your 'opinon'

I really don't see how one is more genuine than the other. Marina completely abandoned her ideals with Electra Heart, and Lana's music (while I absolutely love it) is just a mixed bag of what's popular in the "underground" today

What is your evidence for this? What are your arguments? Talent is a question of opinion. Depth can be argued and even constructed.

Marina is genuine. Lana is not.

I don't know much about either other than they both make okay music that sometimes I like to listen to (and I've got my issues with Lana, believe me). How "genuine" they are doesn't affect the quality of their music. Marina is not a fantastic composer either.

And Marina does? What does she do that is so "refreshing?" Her songwriting is pretty run-of-the-mill, her lyrics are often forced and contrite, and her voice sounds like a deeper Katy Perry. Electra Heart was quite disappointing for me. Perhaps The Family Jewels will be better, though I'm wary of buying any more of her albums.

Can we just let it go? Lord if you like Lana and nobody else does, who cares?!! Same with Marina. Next please :nails:

I don't get how you can compare the two. They both may sing music targeted to hipster crowds but Marina sings electro pop and Lana sings super-chilled ballads/slow music.
