It was five years ago. Everyone from Ariana to Beyonce to Gaga has been accused of claiming credit for only changing a few words, it's nothing new. Fans should really not draw attention to this ish, but I'm sure they will on twitter smdh.

So that makes it okay? Hell no.

What the hell does it change to your life? :triggered: They probably just wanted her to get a shot at the Oscars, they didn't kill anyone. Not to mention she did have creative input with the song one way or another. Gaga herself has always been pretty generous when it came to giving writing credits to her collaborators.

Generally speaking, I actually think it would be fair for the Oscars to award the performer, but that's just my opinion.

I love them but this was so unnecessary. Just trying to create drama I guess.

Five year old drama. Really hope the fans don't fan the flames....

This isn't the first time Michelle's done something like this, though, when it comes to pop girls.

Gaga really looked desperate in that situation, imo. She really shouldn't have tried taking the credit for what wasn't hers.

I agree and given that she's perfectly capable of writing songs and knows enough about the subject that the song addressed there's no excuse for why she merely contributed to it and then pretended like they made it together.

actually i'd argue Diane was the desperate one throughout the whole thing, she even admitted in the interview from the OP when i listened to it when it got released that; she only works with artists who are contemporary and who she KNOWS will make the songs either hits or award winning. The entirety of the TIHTY campaign she was licking gaga's ass and certain it was gonna be the one that finally made her win an oscar, to the point Gaga told her to shut up in an interview for talking over her and being annoying.
And then to make matters worse, she hasn't spoken about the song or it's message in forever and besides a bit of writing on WDYDT she doesn't really stay in touch with Gaga. Proving she only wanted Gaga for either Oscar or hit bait.

And also fyi, Gaga never asked her for the credit, in the interview judging from the tone and conversation she clearly gave it to Gaga for her immense efforts with the song and it's production, like what Gaga gave RedOne for the majority of TFM which could've easily became a fully self written album.

I don't know which interview it was from 2015 or 2016 but I remember Diane actually giving Gaga the credit for how the bridge + last chorus of the song sound because before that the song was the same all throughout. I would say that's enough to get writing credits.

EDIT: Just heard the interview, guys she's not shading Gaga or changing the story, that's just how Diane talks in that sort of confused/rushed way and sometimes that can be misinterpreted or she just doesn't fully get her point across. Stop making up stories about her relationship with Gaga :madge:

Gaga was coming off ARTPOP  and this was before Joanne/Superbowl/AHS. If anything, Diane was far more powerful than Gaga at the time. She may not sing, but Diane has tons of powerful friends and myriad awards and huge influence.

If she didn't want to give Gaga credit for changing a few words and melodies (and remember, that was the o.g. accusation that she barely did anything...not that she didn't do anything) then she shouldn't have given Gaga credit. Diane's not some low key artist with no power, and she worked with Gaga after that mess and has called her a good friend multiple times. If anything, I think it's shady for Diane to imply ish 5  years later.

Of course you'd blindly defend Gaga. :lmao: Gaga was desperate, end of story. Diane wrote this beautiful song and Gaga tried getting the Oscar for changing a single line. Sad.

What a dumb question. I could ask you the same about plenty of posts on here. Shoo, go on. Gaga as desperate.

Yeah I can't with people acting like Diane's some powerless victim that Gaga wrested control away from...do people not know how powerful Diane Warren is in the music world? Granted, she doesn't have much of an impact out of the US but I'd argue she's probably one of the biggest people that doesn't sing in the music industry. Like she's only a few steps down from Clive Davis & co.

I agree that Diane was desperate for a win and gave Gaga credit for what sounds like minor contributions, because she's always been a little salty for not getting an Oscar despite having a million nominations and other awards (she's been nominated for several grammys but I think she's only won once). I remember in the Oscar race this year she kept complimenting Gaga and the other nominees but also sounded a little bitter...and tbh I don't blame her for being bitter. But regretting giving Gaga credit for a song that's five years old is just...she needs to get over it like the fans and no one forced her to do it....and she dances around and implies but won't even straight up say anything. I kind of hate that, too, be forthright or say nothing...people who passive aggressively imply ish make me rme.

Exactly, because plenty of things we discuss here are actually not that serious  And the only person coming off desperate and dumb in this situation is you, so maybe take it down a notch and keep things civil, thank you.

Yes, I'm blindly defending Gaga by pointing out that Diane was far more powerful than Gaga was at the time so it's hardly like Gaga could force Diane to give her credit. :trollga:

This wasn't the TF-BTWB era or the ASIB era, this was when Gaga was basically being dragged by much of the public and semi written off even with the C2C. Sure, maybe Gaga shouldn't have gotten credit for changing one line and some melodies—but it's still shady as f*ck for Diane to passive aggressively answer the question five years later when she's worked with Gaga after and repeatedly complimented her numerous times last year.

We kind of knew that though, didn't we? Till It Happens To You was written by Diane and then given to Gaga for the film, right? She never claimed she wrote it, maybe changed a few words here or there and got a credit but, yeah, it's Diane's song

The problem with this whole situation was that  people within the industry felt it was unfair for Gaga to get the Oscar nomination on account of changing just a few words, since the Oscar is a high honor and that category goes specifically to the songwritters, IMO those people were right to be unhappy about it (Despite Gaga stans jumping to their throats)

HOWEVER it is very important to notice that everything points to this whole ordeal being Diane's doing. She is known for looking for high-profile collaborations to get buzz around her songs, and she is also known to be actively persuing an Oscar for Original Song for quite a while.

I think the reason why she's half admitting to it now is because there is no point in defending the farse she created anymore. But, if anything I think this reflects poorly on her a lot more than it does on Gagz.

This is heartbreaking :noparty: I wish she would at least be honest about how much she contributes

Your question was still dumb and Gaga was still desperate.

That’s the music business.

Beyoncé got writing credits on the Perfect remix, even though it’s the same exact song as the original but with her vocals
