Are people serious?!? Lots of women today had their ears pierced even younger. They turned out to be OK.  :lmao:

I don't think it's a big deal - hurts no more than getting vaccines and the ears recover

It's a complicated subject, but if we come back to topic, in general, I believe that parents should never force their kids anything, even piercing, the kids needs to want it, choose it and fully understand what they are doing, the risks etc. they are people, not fully independent, but they are still people.

Just never "do what you want" with their bodies.

Some sense in this thread. Thank you.

If it's for any other reason than health I just cannot get behind it. Ear piercings and circumcision alike. The child can grow up and make these decisions, it's pretty barbaric really.

I really don't care if this is normal in many cultures - it's a vanity procedure that has no health benefits and therefore is not suitable to do to a infant. If you'd disapprove of make up being put on a baby, why be fine with ear piercing? Just because its been standard practice in many cultures for years doesn't mean it should continue in the humane modern age. Have you ever seen a baby get their ears pierced? It's painful to watch and they scream so loud. I remember that my local Claires in town pierced the ears of anyone who wanted it and those sales assistants weren't even formally trained, anyone who works in the shop can pierce ears. To see them do this to those who were clearly too young always enraged me and my mother. I hope that shop's policy's changed now because it was shocking. That's why, when I got mine done, both of us knew I never wanted to get them done there. I got them done at a beautician and they and the jewellers stated that they don't permit ear piercing on anyone under the age of 5 which sounds much more reasonable to me. Let children be children, don't force vanity on them when they're too young to know what it means or appreciate it. It's such a selfish act to put your own vanity onto them, it's all about the parent wanting their child to look a certain way for others to see, it's so superficial. Plus, an infant flings their hands about and grabs onto things. Part of the reason why many advise against infant piercings is because they're dangerous for this reason. They could pull the earrings out too early and rip their ear, maybe swallow one of them, be open to infection. We're afraid our babies will swallow small objects but pierce their ears with little studs which can easily be dislodged. Madness.

Meanwhile in Africa, little girls still get excised and the internet apparently has nothing to say about it... Pretty sure there are more important fights than Hilary Duff piercing her toddler's ears.

I wouldn't do it but c'mon... You can take the earrings out and that's it. :madge:
