I'm a big believer in "if you've got a story to tell, write one, don't remake one." It's one thing updating it if the first one got things wrong (like Pocahontas, maybe) but nothing was wrong with the original. People watch these remakes for nostalgia, not to see huge changes. That's why these remakes have suffered frequent criticism because they've been changing things that no one asked for or gave them a change that wasn't welcome.

people who yell about remakes are generally nostalgic about previous versions, but they are not generally the actual target audience.  This movie is not targeted at  30 something fans of the animated movie, but their kids.  It’s a modernized version of the story for them.

And these kids are still largely preferring the originals they watched beforehand, it seems. And the Disney company is aimed at everyone who was ever a child, that's how they've made their money, by appealing to adults and kids.

That's crystal clear for me too. Remake are for the kids who liked the first movie and who they became adults now, so they can go and bring their potential kids to see this.

With changing everything and insult them (Freeform TV hello) they clearly put a bullet on their feet.
