Not happy. Ariel is an iconic ginger. It would be like casting a Weasley without red hair.

As if hair dye or wigs dont exist..... something tells me you’re not mad about the hair.

jacs vs looser

I honestly think most of the GP will be ok with this as long as they make her a redhead, but based on the picture she published, I can see that's not happening.

i can't believe a simple thread about a new Disney movie turned into a white supremacy front rally the clownery lmfao

anyway I hope this movie smashes bc halle is insanely talented and she deserves all the success in the world

I think this movie will be fantastic! Watched a couple of videos of Halle singing and she is insanely talented. And her singing just fits the songs so well. I think some people just don’t like to see a character they grew up with not looking how they did before. Also, even as a huge Disney fan, Disney is only interested in making more money, this is hardly some genuine casting decision, they feel like it will make them look more diverse.

MAKES. NO. SENSE. Why not pick a talented Ginger? There are plenty of talented Gingers. Ariel is THE GINGER of Disney princesses. What a let down.

Yeah, but her being a different skin tone is a bigger change than giving her a happy end instead of dying. “BECAUSE THE BOOK”

People are really out here picking and choosing points from a made up fairytale to validate their narrative as to why Ariel can't be portrayed by a WOC. I'm actually really happy with the casting choice.

She’s actually a fish.

It could have been nice to give redhead kids someone to look up for, ginger kids are bullied and not having good life at school just because they are different.. so I think it's a missed opportunity and it would be pretty sad to wait for Brave to let the gingers shine, especially when Brave is more recent.

On the other hand, I think Disney wants to move away from the idea that Black = Villain, in some sense Ursula is black for many people's eyes and the fact that they are reverting it to Ariel - black, Ursula - white, it's pretty awesome imo.

I could play the moderator, I can ban you, die sis.

I get that, Ariel was my favourite princess. And who's to say they can't dye her hair red?
And if they don't change it, the departure from red hair is a small price to pay for some representation, in my opinion. If there's an opportunity and a willingness to cast a black female as a princess, then go for it.

And it's not as if Ariel doesn't need some changes. As I said, I loved Ariel, but her character is very weak since she basically changed her body, gave up her voice, and abandoned everything for a random dude. There's room for tweaks lol.

I laughed so hard at the last paragraph.  I idolized this b*tch and she was such a  flop feminist. :laughga:

And why?

You know she can dye her hair or put a wig on.

Thats why I also said in this thread that perhaps I will feel less upset when the promo rolls out. It could be an amazing decision by Disney and this girl could be the best option. Right now, I am not happy. But I’m not saying that it wont work out.

The amount of racists in here. Gaga would be ashamed of you guys. I couldn’t even make it through the whole thread because I can’t stand racism.

How is this racism? Who are you speaking for.

I’ll speak for myself which is what we all should only be doing. Screaming RACISM at people that aren’t even racist is the easiest most ignorant route- especially when you don’t know ANYONE on the other side of your keyboard.

I was pissed when Scarjo was incorrectly cast as an Asian. Hated that Hermoine was cast as Belle( because she can’t sing). Not happy at all about Melissa Mcartney because she doesn’t have that deep Ursula voice- which seemed more suited for a drag queen. I don’t like that Ariel was not cast  as a Ginger. I might be partial, due to being a Ginger myself- and always loved her being THE GINGER princess. But they really could have found someone that reflected a Ginger mermaid. But whatever, I’ll get over.

Just stop trying to hard to make money(casting untalented singers) or make a stir to be PC. Actually, stop with the remakes all together and get back to the art of original film making. The only remakes I have fully enjoyed are Cinderella and Maleficent. They picked THE RIGHT actresses for those films.

Quit calling people racist just because your simple mind can’t comprehend other reasons of people not being happy with the casting of movies.

Ursula is purple lol. And played by a white voice actor. Designed after a white drag queen. How is she back for many people?
