Yeah, great, but do they say how much it will cost?

 

It will take years until it's affordable to a middle-class citizen. I heard Elon Musk had plans to release an affordable Tesla, and that could accelerate things, but not sure how that's going.

 

Anyway, at least this is the first step. Hopefully, in twenty years this will be a reality for everyone.

Is solar energy even expensive to produce? I don't understand why solar technology is being held from the majority of the population when it will eventually help the environment

By 2030 dealers in The Netherlands are no longer allowed to sell new petrol and diesel cars, only electric cars, so they need to!

All our public transport (in the netherlands) will need to be fully clean by 2020/21, mostly electric and hydrogen (trains and busses )

Model 3 is an attempt for a more affordable model. 

He wishes on being able to release a $20K model version.

Affordability comes from optimisation and scaling. 

For  LightYear it might cost them a certain amount of $ to produce a car. 
For Tesla, however, since they have a bigger factory, more demand etc., everything runs smoother and cheaper. And from here we can go to BMW or whichever renowned car manufacturer there is: they do it even smoother and cheaper. 

To sum it up, EV competition is such a blessing to all of us. Can’t wait for all the AWESOME cars we are going to see the next 10, heck, even 5 years.

Unfortunatelly electric cars have a looooot of issues and constraints.

Poor autonomy, lack of infrastructures to charge them, uncertainty about how to sell them for second-hand use, lithium battery is a mess to recycle with poor results.

Not to mention that "ecologists" want to get out of the nuclear energy (the most clean and most stable type of energy we can mass-produce ). How are we supposed to support a huge increase of our electrical consumption due to the cars without nuclear energy ? That baffles me.

most carbrand model updates next generation (within 5-10 years) will be electric, hydrogen fueled or carbon neutral fossil fueled...like the mazda 3 Skyactive  engine), most fossil fuel will be phased out. I know because I work for a company that makes imagery for all brands.
