Sure these live action remakes make ton of money, but they are also pretty forgotten... You don't see little girls dressing up as Emma Watson's Belle, or people going out of their way to listen to 2017's version of the Beauty and the Beast soundtrack. They go for the original Not true. Beauty and the Beast was really popular and even Belle's dolls had Emma Watson's face. And lots of people go for Ariana and Legend's version. The Beauty and the Beast movie in particular really is quite popular, and a success everytime it's on television. 101 Dalmations live action is a classic. No one even cares for Cruella if it's not Glenn Close. Alice in Wonderland, though a very loose adaptation, is nowadays more popular than the original one. Maleficent, again a loose adaptation, is incredibly popular as well. There's a reason why are making a second one. I hear more people talking about how good Maleficent is, than how bad is should be (only the older audience). Don't be so sure about what you're saying. New kids know and live for the live adaptations. That's a reality. Of course not every adaptation will be successful. The Jungle Book, Dumbo, Aladdin, are a bit forgettable, and even Cinderella (even though that's in the middle I think). But once in a while, they make a popular one that lives on. I'm looking forward for Melissa McCarthy. This thread reminds me of when everyone thought actors like Daniel Craig, Heath Ledger, and even Lady Gaga, were going to bomb, and then did the best roles of her life. This could happen again. She did "Can You Ever Forgive Me?" and already surprised who say it, so this can be a new surprise.

There's no doubt they're popular - that's exactly why they keep making more. They are simply no match for how iconic the originals are, and once they're out of theaters, they're forgotten. Let's not act like these remakes are regarded as anything else other than souless cashgrabs. Alice is pretty forgotten and there's no bigger proof of that than the failed sequel they released which didn't even cross $100 million domestically. Probably something similar will happen to Maleficient 2. I wouldn't consider 101 Dalmatians part of these modern live action adaptations, but sure, I'll give you that one. That's just my opinion anyway. I have a little sister and her school stuff, her toys, the dress up games she plays and whatnot, are all the cartoon princesses, not Lily James or Emma Watson. I'm afraid that does make a difference in these casting decisions The Aladdin he was referring to with Robin Williams is the animated movie. The comment made no sense. Beside Pixars Disney hasn't made a good film in a decade. Since 2010 we had Cate Blanchett playing Cinderella's stepmother, Angeline Jolie/Elle Fanning as Maleficent, Johnny Drop/Anne Hathaway in Alice, Meryl in Into The Woods, Ewan McGregor in Beauty and The Beast ... Some are fine of course. But the remakes are mostly pointless and had nothing new to say besides adding a subtle feminist twist to sell merchandise and toys. I used to love Disney films. And every time I see a new remake my love for the films is chipped away. There's no imagination. It felt like it was made in a lab with market study research. Whoopi has her Tony. Ewan was in Othello in the theatre and Glen Close was on Sunset Boulevard. Whatever dude. Don't watch if you angry at Disney. JohnWayne92 2,221
I think Melissa McCarthy could do it. She is actually pretty decent in serious roles. I think this could be a breakout kind of role for her, if she pulls off being an evil bitch well enough.

I've seen most of the recent ones (bought tickets sheerly through nostalgia and sleek trailers) and they're just not good. My opinion. They're doing the same with Star Wars. I loved Glenn/Robin in her role. Like I said, it's a mixed bag when it comes to these A/B-list casting decisions.
Killa 17,615
Humm She looks like a Disney safe Úrsula. I dont like this idea. hELXIG 43,303
I love Melissa McCarthy but I feel like she would be too comedic for this role. I can't see her being dark, sultry and enchanting. But we'll see! I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

LilyLark 10,122
As everyone else said, Gaga dodged a bullet. Disney, and Melissa, are getting dragged for not casting a drag queen or a Black woman. Some are even comparing Melissa to Scarlett Johansson, which is a bit much imo. Besides, a lot of the critics hate these Disney adaptions and if she wants to establish herself as an actress doing a project where critics already have a chip on their shoulder about is .....not a good idea. AJM 1,520
Here’s the thing, I don’t mind who plays Ursula, ASLONG as they embody Ursula, also bringing new life into the character... prime example Glenn Close, to me she IS Cruella De Vil. Cruella is my favourite Disney character ever and that’s because of Glenn close, she took the main parts from the cartoon but put her own stamp on it and it turned out to be iconic Af Disney better not pull another JAFAR with this live action because my top 3 characters are Cruella, Jafar and Ursula but the live action Jafar is probably going to knock Jafar down a spot because it was done so wrong, no elements of the original character and they really, REALLY dumbed that menacing aspect of his character down I was more scared of the parrot tbh. Ursula HAS to be seductive, sassy and have an air of mystery about her, one thing is the voice, no one is going to have a carbon copy of pat carrols voice but it needs to be that sort of... deep, boombing voice? if Melissa can pull that off and make an iconic character great again then I’m all for it. side note: Kathleen Turner would of made a smashing Ursula 🙋🏼♂️
