Disappointing. I love Melissa but I seriously doubt she can inject the necessary sense of danger and vicious eroticism into that part. I could be wrong of course, and I hope I am.

I don't know, I was ready for some rather unknown actress to do this  Why always give these important role to huge celebs? Where's the sense of surprise and intrigue?

These remakes are getting obnoxious. Literally not a single one of them has been good.

The memorable roles in Disney's films are usually the sidekick roles, or the villains. Hence the corporation feeling they need to cast a famous person in these role (Will Smith, Glenn Close, Eddie Murphy, Etc). I wouldn't be surprised if Gaga was actually offered and turned down (due to poor script, director choice, cast).  Before Robin William's Genie they had always casted Broadway actors for these roles. After the success of Robin's Genie, they're only seeing cash at the expense of good casting.

I'm not sure if Melissa can carry the weight of a blockbuster and one of Disney's most iconic villains on her shoulders. It just feel like "who is famous, family-friendly,  lovable, large and a somewhat good actor" and Melissa is the only person in Hollywood that fits the bill.

Worst casting decision since Will Smith's Genie. There's nothing campy or theatrical about Melissa.

Another remake butchered by Disney. They better not screw up Lion King

I'm sorry but Aladdin was amazing and I totally bought Will Smith as the genie. I went in their thinking I would hate it. I was wrong.

Melissa sings?

What if they got Gaga to do the singing parts (like they did for that actress in The Greatest Showman) and to play the skinny version of Ursula? I know I'm just daydreaming. :smh:

Anywho, I think Melissa is a great actress and she'll do great.

Oh yeah, I see it. Elsa was that actress who had a small part in Glee. So was Kristoph Olaf Hans and Anna.

Lion Heart

Gaga should have been Captain Marvel.

Anyways, I do see Melissa as the right fit for Ursula. I feel like people only know her comedy roles, but she can totally deliver a good villain role.

They didn't appear on screen though. I'm afraid that does make a difference in these casting decisions :noparty:

Ellen in Finding Nemo

Eddie Murphy in Mulan

Glenn Close in 101Dalmations

Mel Gibson in Pocahontas

Minnie Driver in Hercules

Whoopi and Rowan Atkinson in Lion King

There are exceptions of course, in particular Pixar films. Beside Pixars Disney hasn't made a good film in a decade.

Since  2010 we had Cate Blanchett playing Cinderella's stepmother, Angeline Jolie/Elle Fanning as Maleficent, Johnny Drop/Anne Hathaway in Alice, Meryl in Into The Woods, Ewan McGregor in Beauty and The Beast ... Some are fine of course. But the remakes are mostly pointless and had nothing new to say besides adding a subtle feminist twist to sell merchandise and toys.

I used to love Disney films. And every time I see a new remake my love for the films is chipped away. There's no imagination. It felt like it was made in a lab with market study research.

RAMROD

Some misconception need to be clarified.

Ursula is not a POC. There are lot of claims idk from where by enraged POc community about this. But the truth is Ursula was made by Disney in the image of Divine, a white legendary and iconic drag queen. She inspired the whole look and how she moves and all that. More over, her voice actor is also a white woman named Pat Carroll.

Honestly, any races can starring as Ursula. Including POC woman. However, do not claim something that isn't there just to back up the argument.

Also, I disagree with McCarthy casting, but we will see. Will Smith prove me wrong. So maybe she will too? Disney are very careful with their characters, even more so when you also running billions of dollars business based on those characters. Don't expect any drastic and unnecessary changes happen.

I'm so glad Gaga stayed away from Disney's terrible Live action movies

Nosferatu

Gaga dodged a bullet tbh. Sure these live action remakes make ton of money, but they are also pretty forgotten... You don't see little girls dressing up as Emma Watson's Belle, or people going out of their way to listen to 2017's version of the Beauty and the Beast soundtrack. They go for the original

Besides, movies in general take a lot of time to shoot, and we're talking about a blockbuster underwater movie. Do we really want Gaga to spend months shooting this? Not to mention she would need to be open for possible reshoots as well. Hopefully she gets a chance to voice an original animated Disney character in the future, but I'm not mad at her not getting this role.
