I really don't understand the backlash for this video. Yes it is disturbing and controversial but its important and also serious. 

Unlike the American Life video (which was deserving of the backlash), because had scenes that are not only disturbing and controversial, but totally uncalled for (like throwing a grenade at a sitting president lol). God Control has not ridiculous/uncalled for scenes. They are all important--yes even Madonna getting mugged, bc it shows how desensitized ppl r to gun violence that she literally went from having a loaded gun to her head to going to a club.

I don’t think there’s much of a backlash, really, nor really a reason for it — except for TMZ, and here in GGD where everything Madonna-related gets amplified by some sort of long held resentment from some Gaga fans.

I get that people might find the video disturbing, violent and difficult to watch. But that’s exactly the point. You should find it disturbing and difficult to watch because we shouldn’t accept that this type of violence is normal. That’s the whole point of art that is socially and politically engaged, like a lot of Madonna’s work.

Oh, and I also don’t think this was uncalled for when you look back at the video, and reflect on the context. The video was a direct response to Bush and the war in Iraq, and many years after Madonna called him out for starting it in AL, everyone criticised Bush for exactly the same, which actually validated Madonna’s original video.

I would actually have liked for her to not withdraw the original video, but I guess the pressure from all sides must have been too much.

I think it was all very close -- not sure though. Something like, video and song came out in April and the Iraq war had started in March, but, yeah, the video was shot earlier... So really bad timing. 

And because the video was openly anti-war, considering the climate of American politics at the time, the backlash was huge. 

But I get what you mean in terms of the violence being more gratuitous in AL, but also think the message was there.

The song has an anti war message,  and not specifically about Iraq, that's why there scenes referencing the Vietnam war for example.

But yes, it was released before the war on Iraq officially started. But even back then,  everybody knew that the US was determined to invade Iraq, and a lot of americans supported that. Sadly,  the same thibg is happening with Iran now.

I would like to know more about this story. How involved was he in the event? Like david Hogg was supposed to have survived parkland yet he wasn't even there. No on has ever got to the bottom of that. Either way, his previous tweets show he has a vendetta. His opinion can be dismissed.

The video is not about Pulse tho ? It’s not about the shooting of gay people either. It’s about shootings as a whole. It’s set in a club to show how it can happen in happy settings and put a contrast. It’s explained in the teaser for the MV. He said himself that the shooting happened 3 years ago, why would she reference it now?

What's gross is seeing him being attacked for feeling this way towards something that hit's very close to home. You can praise and love the video without invalidating his feelings or dealing him as "overly sensitive".

An uncontroversial video would have no impact and Madonna knows the game. Pulse survivor has every right to criticize but Madonna is not obligated to make everybody feel good.

Ive said OVER and OVER again, there is a better way to have these kinds of discussions. 

Madonna is a shock jock and she took it too far. And I really don’t care for other insights beyond my own. Any pushback otherwise disregards agency and free will to come to my own conclusions, independent of what’s popular on this forum.
