I don't see this type of event drawing a large turn out...

Don't judge straights by this small group

holy scheisse

Boston approving this event only for a mass protest to occur and grab headlines. At least it'll spark public debate.. :( at most it'll continue invigorating bigots and ignoramuses. so sad

I'm so proud of them :diane: . They're finally able to open up about their sexuality and how they were oppressed by the supremacy of gays, bi, lesbians and transgenders :tony: .

I thought Boston was like one of the most progressive cities in the USA?  Where these things would never happen? :laughga: I guess I was wrong

its called freedom of speech... even though the point behind the parade is dumb. Not approving it because they disagree with the idea of a straight parade would have infringed on basic human rights.

Freedom itself is not an argument, it's a consequence. One can't use freedom as an argument to justify an action, since the action might not be ethically valid. Your freedom of speech doesn't give you the right to say everything, that is why there are anti-discrimination laws that cover hate speech and call for hate action.

Just because you're free to do it, doesn't mean you should.

There are a million reasons why a straight parade makes no sense. Including probably more than a million people who died for being gay over Human History, or never had the chance to express that feeling freely. Celebrating straight pride, after what?

So, whoever approved this is a terrible judge and doesn't know his work properly. If it was for freedom of speech, disapproving this parade would not be an assault to basic human rights.

im sorry but this is basic human rights law. a straight parade is not hate speech, even though the undertone is highly questionable. they have a right to parade for whatever they want, in the limits of freedom of speech of course.

Most progressive? Not in a second. Boston is fairly progressive, but they’re very old school democrat not like modern dem socialism progressivism. There’s also this very strong Irish Catholic community which influences the overall culture towards conservatism. Boston isn’t a backwards city, but it’s definitely not one of the most progressive cities. It’s a liberal city, though.

Probably because it makes people see how stupid annoying straight people are and rib on straight guys. Their security is so fragile that despite being our biggest bullies and “just joking” all their lives, they don’t like the tables turned. They’re immature and lack emotional maturity.
