Goldderby Predicts Gaga Could Win Album of the Year Grammy in 2020 for ASIB

Well, for starters, it's been an absolute sh*t year for music, and the soundtrack has been a standout not only in popularity but also in quality. Also, as of now, her only real competition is Billie, and the Grammys typically don't like to give the Big 3 (AOTY, ROTY, SOTY) to newcomers, so Gaga really does have a chance.

Um....Beck won in like 2016 and he didn't even have a hit on his record. 

Adele won in 2017 and the only proper big hit off of it was Hello. 

Kacey Musgraves won this year and she might have had a hit on the country charts but there was no smash. 

 

AOTY is about an album as a whole that sold and was critically acclaimed and artistically respected. Not about the single performances. 

A Star is Born checks all of those boxes while even having Shallow, Oscar support,  a few moderate streaming hits with no promotion at all, and a critically acclaimed film to go with it. 

 

If Black Panther can do it....ASIB can.

Maybe Gaga is waiting to release her next album in October because she knows she has a real shot at winning her first AOTY and she doesn't wanna split votes and **** that up.

Its about an album that made some sort of precedent while also being just a good ass album. And although billie and ariana had these really big albums that became popular....the Grammy committee ain't gonna give AOTY to Ariana writing about making money and dumpkng exes and I highly doubt they'll give it off to a newcomer's debut album like billie. She played with autotune and got creepy. Thats not some magnificent transformation. It sounded different but so did Lorde when she came out. And billie is not as big as Lorde was when she came out. 

Knowing the cutoff is in September....I really don't think Gaga has any true competition. I just don't. Nothing was as commercially AND critically viable while also being a real artistic evolution/risk like Gaga was with ASIB. I think that will make the committee kind of lean in Gaga's favor.

This year is very weak...I doubt it at times too but literally I don't even know who could be nominated. The fact that thank you, next is probably the safest bet for nomination should tell you everything. Who else? Igor? Ok cool, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? and that's it. I’m disgusted that some of you really think Gaga won’t get at the very least nominated. It’s one of the best selling and most popular albums of the year, it was number 1 for 3 WEEKS STRAIGHT. That’s very hard to pull off these days. Beyond that, it’s a very well liked album and everything surrounding A Star is Born was everywhere. Deadass delusion to think Gaga won’t get a nomination. It deserves to win imo.
