Richer countries have less faith in vaccines

(CNN) - People in high-income countries have the lowest confidence in vaccines, with about 20% of those in Europe either disagreeing or being unsure of whether vaccines are safe, according to a new global survey.

The Wellcome Trust, a UK medical research charity, asked more than 140,000 people ages 15 and older in more than 140 countries how they think and feel about health and science.

Globally, about 8 in 10 people (79%) agreed that vaccines are safe, and 9 in 10 worldwide say their children have been vaccinated, but Wellcome said there were pockets where trust in vaccines was of concern.

The survey found that Bangladesh and Rwanda had the strongest confidence in vaccines. Almost all people in both countries agree that vaccines are safe, effective and important for children.

In high-income regions, however, there is less certainty about the safety of vaccines, with 72% of people in North America agreeing that vaccines are safe. In Europe, that figure is even lower: 59% in Western Europe and 40% in Eastern Europe.

The report singled out France as having the lowest levels of trust in vaccines. One-third of its inhabitants don't agree that vaccines are safe, and one-tenth don't agree that they are important for children to have.

Honestly I find it very hard to believe that. The group that conducted this study is based in the UK so you’d think this is accurate but it’s very hard to believe the Europe numbers when they’re broken up like that tbh.

Yea, I am unsure. I am still hold my views on them. Just a little surprised about this report.

Let's take them into 3rd world countries, specially the tropical ones, I swear you, they will be on knees supplicating for free vaccines. 

 

And that's why they think vaccines are unnecessary, because they don't suffer from serious epidemics, but they don't know that the reason why they don't suffer from this is because of the vaccines and the other healthcare methods, things that the 1st world people can have and even for free.

A doctor over a decade ago published a paper stating that there could be a possible link between autism and vaccines; however, since then, he has retracted his statement (said there was no scientific evidence whatsoever) and had his license removed from him. 

But people still believe this... especially middle-aged soccer moms (they are the worst carrier of this misinformation)

It’s important to have herd immunity though. Like, if all people in a given area are vaccinated against a disease or virus, it then dissipates and becomes extinct over time. 

Like, Polio was basically non-existent in North America for decades. But since the anti-vax movement started a few years ago, there have been hundreds of cases reported. 

The most important thing to know about diseases, viruses, bacteria, etc is that it won’t infect everyone the same. Some people could just be carriers of the disease (doesn’t affect them, but they spread it on to others people). But then the next person will most likely have a severe reaction to it entering their body, which could possibly cause their eventual death. And this is why vaccination is so important for everyone.

like, a child in the USA caught the bubonic plague last year for goodness sake. That hasn’t been around for centuries!

Not surprising, the privileged have more leisure time to delve in psuedo-education echo chambers. For third world countries, our first world bubbles are not an option. They have no choice but see and live the ugly consequences of lack of healthcare every day.
