LilyLark 10,122
So lately there's been a whole slew of articles claiming that "pop" is nearly dead. I don't think they are 100% off base, as trap infused pop and what someone once called "prozac" pop (like Billie's sound) is what's getting played most on the pop friendly radio and the curated playlists. Even with all the good press, great album sales, and her music being -in- Billie hasn't had a #1 single and Taylor and Katy have under performed (Katy in particular). I thought Kacey (country-pop) and Lizzo (upbeat pop-R & B) would shoot to the top of the charts because of all the press and Kacey at the Grammys, but that hasn't happened either...and Jonas Brother's Sucker held the chart for one week. Most of these artists are still doing extremely well, or at least good, with album sales. Basically, it's hard out there for a pop bish. ME! has definitely hampered a bit of Taylor's buzz for her album, and NRO's charting will probably be written up by the music sites and take a little shine off the buzz for Katy, too. Do you think Gaga might just benefit from dropping the album with MV ready to go for the singles? She's always been more of an album artist and a lead single that has issues (charts, whatever) might hurt the buzz for her album. I mean, Joanne is kind of a good example. Good reviews on metacritics and a number one opening week, but fans complaining about PI on twitter definitely lead some of the music writers to cast a slightly negative spin on the album write ups. monketsharona 84,324
I think Gaga will benefit ASIB very good reception and success She's in a better place than when she released PI and Joanne. The GP will definitely care, what wasn't the case for Perfect Illusion

And hey, not even a big Taylor fan but I'm still looking forward to her new album. She makes catchy bops.
Widows Kiss 7,818
If it's a really strong pop banger, she'll shoot up to the top of the charts. PI debuted at #15 after ARTPOP and C2C... this time she's coming off of ASIB, Shallow, the Bradley fiasco and award season. Not to mention that her pop comeback is highly anticipated (by the gays). FfFfFfFF 56,421
Pop is a very flexible genre because opposed to other genres is ever evolving and dependent on what's popular at the moment. Moreover, Gaga won't release a pure pop song because all of her past leads were pop but with different influences: Just Dance was synthpop, Bad Romance was dance-pop with industrial, house and techno influences, Born This Way was industrial/ dance-pop/ disco fusion, Applause was eurodance/ Hi-NRG, Perfect Illusion disco-rock and Shallow folksy pop rock ballad. Unless we're getting C3C, it's safe to assume her next single will be another mixture of pop and other genres. The success will rather depend on the public than on the genre.
