I have zero faith in Pelosi, right now, tbh. I admire your willingness to trust her, as I believe she, more than anyone else, is responsible for this failure to open an inquiry into impeachment. I am much more willing to trust, and you probably have this memorized by now, more than 1,000 former prosecutors from both parties asserting that Trump would be facing prison right now if he weren't President. I think you're being reasonable, don't get me wrong... We just have slightly different approaches to this... Have an awesome day, sweetie

oh believe me, i know we're on the same side of things. there is some nasty **** going on out there. you have a good day, too :)

It seems to me there is a clear reason why this House of Representatives isn't willing to open the impeachment procedure. Providing there is a scratch of strategic thinking among the DNC, they are well aware that a successful impeachment will turn Trump into a political martyr. The instant he is forced out of office, a legend will be born: beware, America, the truly anti-establishment President, the President of the people, the President who wanted to make his beloved country great again has been destroyed by the deep state, by the crooked Washington swamp! etc.

Profoundly idiotic as it may sound, such a narrative may find broader appeal than we care to acknowledge. It would make a lovely conspiracy theory about a President who wanted to put China in their place, make it harder for Mexico cartels to smuggle drugs and tear EU away from their fossil fuel romance with Russia, but the wicked behind-the-scenes enemies of the country who wish to downplay America kicked him out of office.

To make the matters worse, it is also refreshing to remember that just two years ago people were primarily concerned about the possibility of Trump's secret alliance with the Russian government officials and secret services. People were afraid that he legit conspired with a foreign government to get elected, they were legit worried that he could be controlled by Putin. It was all over the feeds in FB and everybody was discussing it in the news two years ago, even though it's easy to forget. Obstruction of justice is a serious issue, BUT people were not worried about it in the first place. They were worried that Trump was a Russian puppet, and Mueller's report couldn't find that out. The report makes it clear that the President tried to interfere into the investigation, yes, but his "alliance with Putin" couldn't be established. Russians did meddle with the US elections, but any assumptions that the Russians and Trump somehow coordinated their efforts and consciously made it a team work do not stand the test of proof.

Impeaching Trump over obstruction of justice may turn his agenda into a never-dying legacy that will live on and on through the desire of his followers and some casual republicans to seek revenge from the "deep state" of Washington and "drain the swamp which made the greatest president drown". The dems in the house are smart enough to understand that. There is a chance that Trump will simply lose the 2020 elections, leave the office and that we will never hear about him again. If they impeach him, though, his rhetoric may be immortalized by this event, and haunt the American society for generations. The concept of "restoring something to its former glory" is seductive enough on its own, and if Trump were kicked out of office through impeachment, his followers would remain forever certain that he was kicked out because the dems didn't want to let him make America great again, not because he obstructed justice.

It would be a story they would tell their kids, etc., and Trump's "make America great again" will become stronger than ever, so that's why the Democrats in the House don't act now: they think it's safer to get rid of him at the elections rather than risk immortalizing him via impeachment. Besides, most of them realize that the main goal of Mueller's report was to determine whether there was conspiracy between Russian secret services and Trump's campaign, and the report states that "there was insufficient evidence to charge a broader conspiracy", so that's why they think that starting impeachment because of obstruction of justice may be of a higher political risk. The House consists of politicians, after all, so it's small wonder they don't want to take higher risks.

Impeachment is a constitutional mechanism with no exception for political considerations. It's the only mechanism to create accountability in regard to the office of the presidency.

Excerpt: "Third, the investigation established that several individuals affiliated with the Trump Campaign lied to the Office, and to Congress, about their interactions with Russian-affiliated individuals and related matters. Those lies materially impaired the investigation of Russian election interference. The Office charged some of those lies as violations of the federal false-statements statute. Former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn pleaded guilty to lying about his interactions with Russian Ambassador Kislyak during the transition period. George Papadopoulos, a foreign policy advisor during the campaign period, pleaded guilty to lying to investigators about, inter alia, the nature and timing of his interactions with Joseph Mifsud, the professor who told Papadopoulos that the Russians had dirt on candidate Clinton in the form of thousands of emails. Former Trump Organization attorney Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to making false statements to Congress about the Trump Moscow project. "

Analysis: As far as collusion, all that we know is that Donald Trump and his campaign may have not engaged in an explicit conspiracy against the United States w/ the Russian hackers... I say 'may' because Mueller makes it clear that obstructionist actions prohibited him from obtaining information that he considered important ('material'). Mueller's investigation, according to Mueller himself, was successfully thwarted (to a degree) by Trump and his cronies and their disrespect for our justice system. The evidence for an explicit conspiracy that Mueller collected was insufficient to prove a crime but sufficient to prove collusion, certainly. Mueller did not investigate whether the President is beholden to Putin. Mueller did not investigate whether Trump was a Russian puppet. Those issues are still undecided. You're putting words in Mueller's mouth, as has much of the media over the past few months. The coverup could be worse than the crime in this case, but we perhaps may never get to the full truth here due to obfuscation by Trump's cronies.

I also find your efforts to minimize Trump's Obstruction of Justice crimes to be completely incongruent with Mueller's beliefs. Mueller underlined in his oral statement that Obstruction of Justice is a very serious crime:

Excerpt: "The matters we investigated were of paramount importance. It was critical for us to obtain full and accurate information from every person we questioned. When a subject of an investigation obstructs that investigation or lies to investigators, it strikes at the core of their government’s effort to find the truth and hold wrongdoers accountable."

Lastly, I was brought to laughter over your argument that, politically, the impeachment of Trump would be damaging because his sentiments would live on forever. The lengths that people like you will go to defend a cowardice Speaker of the House, Pelosi, is so crazy to me. Impeachment could be necessary in the face of severe misconduct... But we are so much further than that. Impeachment is definitely necessary in the face of severe crimes like Obstruction of Justice. But to fail to even open an inquiry into impeachment, as Pelosi has done so far, is such a severe dereliction of duty that I believe she needs to act immediately or promptly step aside.
