Amen Fashion 1,148
Why am I visioning her just dancing in a dark room for 10k with ASIB merch in the background... HAUS OF GAGA
Reject False Icons 4,782
Actually I think Gaga didn’t rely heavily on special effects to accomplish a great videography. Therefore it has stayed more timeless than others
Twitter 14
YES! She needs to step her game up. Especially after having a subtle era with original video content.

JazzGa 14,623
Unpopular opinion I'm sure, but Gaga has never had the most cutting edge special effects, even compared to her peers in the same time frame. For example, Katy Perry's ET video came out at almost the exact same time as the BTW video, and ET had a lot more CGI and less use of tricks like double-exposure. I always cracked it up to Gaga preferring practical effects because they look more "artistic" than overly-polished CGI. My old cat is a tough man, but i cant deny the way he bites my hand and he stabs me, he grabs me by my heart <
Hyoha 1,613
I think Gaga was never really into making these huge studio-bred, CGI-filled music videos with massive production value. It'd be fun to see what she would come up with, but I just think it's not her cup of tea. I feel like she prefers doing arthouse, campy projects and that's fine. I can’t think of any of the great videos from past decades that look like they could be made today. I meant more like it’s timelessly beautiful and thoughtful and creative across all generations. It’s not something that will be outdated with a new generations idea of beauty.

I do actually think the Poker Face video looks outdated, but that’s just me to me, BTW, Applause, and Alejandro are the really timeless ones
OMonster 14,724
I've always thought that, whilst visually very impressive, the 'high-production', 'glossy' videos (Taylor Swift, mostly) lack any real, long-lasting impact. You watch them, they look good... but that's it. Like, 'Me!' for example is a great music video to watch. But it's also incredibly empty - and it is hiding behind the visual effects and the excessiveness of it all. The best music videos should feel timeless, iconic and tell a story /about/ the song. These are features that cannot be achieved through visual effects. For example, 'Applause' is an incredible music video... but it's really quite simple. It's more about the iconography, not the effects - and a very busy, visually over-the-top music video usually lacks iconography. Again, 'Me!' is a good example of this. What will you remember from a video that gives you too much to remember? subtext / fantasy
RadioIsOurs 13,876
Dude I feel that even music videos from the 80s look like they have higher budgets than today's videos...
BabylonHooker 4,305
Gaga's videos look more real and raw honey ! and I love it that way. I'm not really into CGI videos. Just the scene where Gaga lying next to the burned corpse on the bed can top any CGI video. GAGA IS MY LIFELINE
Miel 15,009
To be fair, none of Gaga's videos really have a "high-budget pop-girl" kind of visual tone. Poker Face would be the one that fit that, at most. As others have mentioned, she generally seems to gun for either a more high-art high-fashion aesthetic, campy pastiche, or any combination of both. I think that's kind of what gives them a little bit more of a timeless appeal, than aging the video to the year it was made. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but Gaga hasn't really fit into that all too much, and I enjoy that. 3 points in and ready for more
Miel 15,009
Her (likely) high-budget videos have always been different than what was considered top-notch visual aesthetic of the time it was released. All of the TFM videos, Judas, MTN, Applause, G.U.Y. Not that I would mind a touch of what OP ha mentioned at all (I am a sucker for a beautifully produced or beautifully shot set), but I would never expect it from her. Nor want it from her. 3 points in and ready for more
