Comments like that really piss me off.

*A franchise has 1000 straight heroes*
no one says anything about it

*A franchise introduces 1 gay superhero*
OH MY GOD! THE WORLD HAS GONE TO ****! WE DON'T THIS SJW/LIBERAL AGENDA BULLSHIT

Seriously, what is the problem with a little bit of representation?

I think the main problem, is that they're probably focusing more on a character to be gay, instead of a character who also happens to be gay... In other words, queer baiting at its finest.

We do need a Gay superhero, Just like they need more films centering around the female superheros, Captin marvel was great and the upcoming black widow will no doubt be amazing.

There's a couple of characters in films that are LGBT just like Deadpool is Pansexual and they don't exactly hide that but having more LGBT Superheros and showing the romantic side of a gay relationship is much needed.

I don't think they need it to solely be about them being gay but they do need to showcase the romantic side of a gay relationship just as much as they would with a straight superhero movie.

There's so many characters from the comics that they could choose from too.

Yeah this. Star Trek I think did it right with John Cho’s character who had a husband and kids.

The only people who don’t think we need a queer mainstream superhero are people who don’t give a shít about the LGBT+ community tbh

I can understand that point of view, however, coming from Disney/Marvel, I don't think they're going to make the mistake of solely focusing on a character's sexuality.

I hope you're right, cause I would love to have a gay superhero! I just want them to make it realistic, not because they just want to be politically correct :green:

I think in a perfect world, we could do that, however, because we don't yet live in a world that normalizes LGBTQ people, then I think it's a great thing to make a big deal out of it.

People made a big deal when Black Panther was the first leading African American hero, people made a big deal when Captain Marvel was the first leading female hero, why can't the same be said for a gay hero?

There was Blade, Wonder Woman, Will Smith in MIB, Will Smith in Hancock Will Smith in Suicide Squad all bug hits, and MCU managed to make a huge deal about Black Panther and Captain Marvel. There isn't really any gay superheros on the big screen though at all. Despite at least two of huge comic book characters are actually bisexual in the comics. Deadpool and Constantine in DC. Both movies didn't really make any mention of it. Which means that Hollywood IS infact down playing LGBT comic book characters to appear straight on the big screen.  Straight-washing those characters. So I agree we should make a big deal when we get to see a real LGBT character in movies.

We have plenty of them on TV on shows like Arrow, Supergirl, and DC Legends of Tomorrow which actually do a great job with them.

He is. The reason you are not sure is because there isn't any mention of it in the movies.

My guess it that it's going to be Captain Marvel and Deadpool now that Disney owns Fox and he will be part of the MCU. So that shouldn't be a problem. I thought Captain Marvel was gay during the entire movie and everyone knows Deadpool is bisexual in the comics.

Absolutely That's not to say that in the future we should make a big deal out of it, though.

The reason why making a big deal out of it right now is important is because we don't yet live in a world that completely normalizes LGBTQ people. In the future if/when LGBTQ rights gain more mainstream popularity and LGBTQ are less afraid to openly be themselves, then just dropping characters left and right without the need to justify who they are is completely okay.

The goal is to just make characters who are great characters that happen to be gay, or a woman,  or are black, or are Muslim, etc., etc. However, as of right now, we need to make a big deal out of it because it'll be a historic event.

I'm on the fence about whether or not it's going to be Carol. On one hand, I think my own bias towards the character wants me to make her bisexual or gay, and Brie Larson has hinted a potential relationship between Carol and Valkyrie, but on the other hand, I don't know if they're willing to risk it.

It's sad to say, but I think that making Carol an LGBTQ hero would polarize the character even more. As it is, Brie Larson/Captain Marvel is already very polarizing. You either love her or hate her, and I think making her LGBTQ (while I personally think would be great) would deepen that divide even more.

Unfortunately I agree with everything you said. MCU just didn't write her well enough, but IMO I still think that's where they are headed with her.
