Guest
I kind of agree with them... I don’t feel sorry for Madonna one bit & her saying that there’s no other woman doing what’s she’s doing or has done is extremely offensive & flat out wrong. Sorry but Madonna is not the be all end all despite her & her fans’ delusions that she is. Many women have come before her & have done great things & have paved the way for all women, Madonna is just another in a long line of women that have done this & just because she burned a cross in a video & acts like she’s still 19 doesn’t put her above anyone else. Sorry not sorry.

Madonna is not classy and she's allowed not to be The irony of you with a Brit avatar who is still pushing the Lolita act close to 40.

RoverLoader 1,254
I'm always surprised the amount of judgemental attitudes in a forum that is mostly dominated by gay men. Don't you remember being judged for your looks, your voice, your mannerisms, not being "straight" acting or not having the right body? Wasn't very nice was it? Let Madonna do what she wants to do. If you don't like it, it's not your flavour, then move on. There are hundreds, if not 1000's of artists to choose from. We have one life - let her live hers. Sorry not sorry. The fact you agree with someone like Meghan McCain, well, I- First, Madonna is not asking you or anyone to feel sorry for her. Please... That would be the last thing she would ever want from people. She is a strong self-assured woman who has always been in control of her life... Moved to New York with 25 bucks in her pocket and built her career from scratch, becoming one of the most powerful woman in the world. Secondly, what they are focusing on this conversation in The View has been completely been taken out of context. Yes, many woman have come before her and done great things. No one is denying that, not even Madonna, and she is actually paying homage to those women in this Vogue editorial. Maybe you would know this if you cared enough... The fact she is saying 'No one is doing what I am doing' is an actual FACT. @RoverLoader put this very well in another thread, because what Madonna is doing at 60 years old is truly groundbreaking and unheard of. Some tea for you here: 3 hours ago, RoverLoader said: People need to understand the time span we are talking about here. For Madonna to be delivering these kind of contemporary tracks in 2019 is literally unheard of. No one has done this before. They simply haven't. They may not be your flavor or whatever, but for a woman of 60, SIXTY to be brining out pop music like this is uncharted territory. Look at the demographics of the last 30 years. Madonna's initial contemporaries were Whitney, Michael Jackson , Prince and perhaps George Michael. They are all dead!!! And I don't say that as disparaging because I loved them all. I'm trying to convey the passage of time to the younger members here. She is now having to compete with Taylor Swift and Arianna. We have never seen this before. That's why despite what has happened in the past, I see Gaga as having the same drive as Madonna. Think in ten years time. Gaga will be in her 40's. Madonna made Ray of Light then. Where will Taylor, Arianna and Selena be. Gag is literally the only one that I can think of that will still be a force then. I know there is a lot of controversy and emotion around Madonna, but it's clear a lot of Gaga Daily fans love her too. You have to admit, she is a pioneer. Let's enjoy this moment. When you decide to come for Madonna with ageist views, at least know what you are talking about!

Fresco 1,688
Madonna is downgrading (or alternating) to a smaller theater tour. She also made a comment about spending alot of money on the billboard award show performance and being there not getting any award. I kind of don't want to bring someone else into this. But Dolly Parton has made comments about not getting as much radio play as she got older, and that she had been told they only wanted the young performers. So, if Madonna feels that the industry is treating her differently as she ages, she's probably not being paranoid. ( It's real, not imagined)

Lmao imagine getting this upset over an opinion... yikes there are TONS of singers in their 60’s & above doing what Madonna is doing, they just aren’t as publicized because they aren’t grinding against young guys trying to jump on the Latino trend. Madonna has turned into a trend hopping elitist who believes her art still matters when in reality everything she’s doing has been done before by everyone including her 🤷🏻♂️ also, Meghan McCain wasn’t the one who I was agreeing with or the one who said “I don’t feel sorry for Madonna” so... maybe get your facts straight? But even if I were agreeing with Meghan on an opinion of Madonna, who cares? What, because she’s a republican everything she says is instantly bad? Sorry but I’m not one of those democrats that just hates everyone who doesn’t agree with my political views. Stop shaming people, get your facts right, calm down lmao ✌🙏🏻
jljfjb 37
I get both where Joy AND Whoopi come from.. I think ageism has hit and affected Madonna. She does have some merit behind her claim with the music industry. If anyone else came out with a song like “I Rise” (a safe song) it would still be in the top 40 on itunes. But not as much as her peers. I mean look at all the threads about Madonna on this site. She is still quite relevant. I dont see people talking about another 60+ act this much when they release an album or go on tour. If she were to write a megahit I have no doubt it would play on the radio. She has better chances than the Rolling Stones, or Stevie Nicks of getting a hit played. Even if some of her 80s peers (Prince, Whitney) were still alive making music that their singles would not garner as much attention as Madonna’s. So she cant complain too much. But Cher is not political in her musical aesthetic, or maintains sexuality as a key element of her image, while both of these things are central to Madonna's work... That's why in this sense, I see it is uncharted territory.

Would you say Cher fits into the "classy older lady" narrative that culture pushes onto women in showbiz "of a certain age"?
