I don't think this is his authentic self. Yes he was in a pop band, but you can tell from the original audition tapes from X Factor what kind of artists they all really wanted to be. Zayn really wanted to do his R&B stuff, Harry wanted to do his rocky type music and Niall with his acoustic stuff. They all followed that and it appears to be completely authentic. Liam came out however with no top on, dressing like a gangster, singing songs about 'strip that down' and it just looks laughable. I know what kind of artist you want to be can change, but I can't take it seriously. He thinks he's some sexy tough guy or something.

First of all, that bulge in the third pic.  If he's trying to be a gangster, then he can gangster me however he wants.

Jokes aside, I mean like you yourself have acknowledged, musical directions change all the time. I'm sure Gaga didn't expect to win a Grammy for singing jazz with Tony Bennett, nor did she ever expect herself to be involved in such a successful movie and soundtrack.

I don't think the problem with him is his image, it's more the musical direction he takes.

But Gaga's is authentic. WE didn't expect her to sing Jazz because we had never seen her in that light, but she was singing and grew up with Jazz from a young age. As we all know, every genre of music Gaga does - jazz, hip hop, R&B, dance, EDM, Jazz - she's done them all and done them so well. Because she's universally talented and understands the contexts of all genres, it comes across very genuine. Who else can switch from rapping on 'Cake', to 'Swine' to singing 'The Sound of Music'?

For me it's not Liam's musical direction, I actually like that song 'Strip that Down' and I think he's talented - but he's trying TOO hard to bring out this 'Imma bad boi' kinda look.

The closest thing I can compare it to is like a 15 year old in puberty going through a phase.

Hmm, I seem to appreciate his fashion sense. I don't think they are groundbreaking, but they are far from damaging his public image.

I do, however, think his songs are quite generic, even though they do sound good for an occasional party and such. But he needs to take up something more serious and different if he wants to reach the higher heights.
