Netherlands has the reddest map of all time

PvdA surprisingly won with 6 seats, far-right PVV/Wilders (4 seats) now at 0, new far-right party gets only 3 seats. Other Euroskeptics SP/GUE-NGL went from 2 to 0, and CU-SGP/ECR steady at 2. VVD/ALDE went up 1, D66/ALDE went down 2, CDA/EPP went down 1, GreenLeft/G-EFA went up 1. Very good result for PvdA/S&D. They were even biggest in the far-right stronghold/my hometown Schiedam.

Abstention was alarmingly high in Portugal  At least we elected someone for the Green Party. I was disappointed not seeing a real liberal party being elected from Portugal. The only real liberal party was running for the first time this year and got a decent result, which is not bad at all.

True, but we have to consider that historically, the centre-left in Sweden does well everywhere but Stockholm and Malmö, while the centre-left in the Netherlands historically only performs well in the north and big cities. This is the first time in over 70 years that the centre-left was biggest in Limburg and Noord-Brabant for example. Low turn-out, a Spitzenkandidat from Limburg and virtually nobody expecting the result explain most of it though.

Turnout makes the parties positions awkward. The Brexit Party claim that they have a clear mandate for a no-deal Brexit and the pro-remain parties claim that they have a clear mandate for a second referendum. However, the turnout was very low, so for any party to assume that this vote reflects the countries attitudes is wrong.

Voted Green this year. I've been pretty removed from the Friday for Future protests and the German political scene because it got way too depressing to deal with, but I LOVE seeing people youger than me stand up for what is ultimately right and take no sh*t anymore from these old conservative geezers.
