That's tragic. I'm not a Christian, nor Catholic, and I know this has nothing to do with any of this, but I've always found black churches so full of joy and happiness. I'd love to experience that kind of energy one day.

Black churches are neighborhood institutions like any and every other church and black theology has a long tradition in the States. If you're aware of, like, the very basics of the Protestant Reformation, denominationalism isn't unusual. Wondering why there are black churches in America is like wondering why there's a Greek Orthodox denomination.

But ppl of different races can take on different religions and denominations that's why to me it doesn't make sense to make it exclusively black assuming that's how it works

Horrifying. I was just in New Orleans for work, and as much as the people there were absolutely lovely and I enjoyed my stay, it is very visible that (predominantly Black, poor) communities there are still struggling. Hell, they are still struggling to recover from Hurricane Katrina 14 years later. Racial tensions, especially in conjunction with lack of equitable access to resources, is so, so prevalent in Louisiana.

They are not exclusively Black- these churches and their participants are more representative of the demographic in their area, which in this case is historically and predominantly Black.

Also most predominantly black churches have a much different style of service and sermons. There are many many integrated churches.
