Antichrist 9,818
i didn't like it at all when i heard the singles (except HH, loved that one), but now... all of the songs grew on me so ****ing much, i noticed it's like that with marina, i need to hear the full body of work (LOVE, in this case) in order to completely enjoy & grasp what exactly she wanted to do with said work. To Be Human & End of the Earth are MAGNIFICENT

Inferno 2,880
On 4/4/2019 at 11:12 AM, DelusionalGaga said: I don't know what happened to me but I simply cannot enjoy her new music. She used to be my 2nd favorite after Gaga. This feels like someone's debut album, not the 4th album of a 33 year old woman. The lyrics are kinda basic and on the nose. Halfway through I felt like I was listening to some sort of self help CD. Froot was really a peak of her artistry for me and I hoped she could top that. But Love is all so flat and uninspired. Fear is my last hope tbh Froot was the beginning of the end for what made her distinctive. It was the first album where she smoothed out her "quirkiness" and punchy angst, and Love doubled down on her ironing out all of her eccentricities to be left with nothing more than a very vague lyrical indication that she may be the same artist who made The Family Jewels. If her voice weren't so naturally recognizable, this album would sound totally anonymous and inconsequential. Not to say it isn't pleasant, its nice, its fine. But its ultimately like a beige wall. I feel like shes been too influenced by Lana Del Reys sort of blase lethargic approach to pop and balladry. I also understand that shes no longer young and angst ridden striving for success, shes calmed down and grown up. But I mean, this just isn't inspiring imo. Even a song like To Be Human is literally just a rehash of Savages without as strong an intent.
Nikolai Barrow 1,337
Froot is still my favorite album from her. But i actually really like this. At first i found it sorta too mainstream but something about it really works. And frankly she's a lyrical genius all her albums are so strong lyrically! I really love most of the songs on the album and she seems to have found some sort of contentment in herself i haven't seen before. Super pumped for fear as i always love her darker songs
