Honestly without YouTube things would be 10 times worse. The amount of valuable (and sometimes unique) information it has is too much to lose. Education will suffer a lot.

Children are children. They'll pick up every trend that's out there until they go away and something new comes, it doesn't have anything to do with YouTube/the internet/games. Eventually they'll learn to appreciate educational material. 10 years ago I watched GTA IV bloopers, now I use the platform as a main source of info for college and education across infinitely many fields, as many  other people do.

Banning stuff doesn't work.

There's a lot of informative videos in YouTube. Screens are not making people dumber, they are offering the entirety of human knowledge within the limits of one's pockets. I don't understand how can that be a bad thing. There are extremist material of course, but the same goes for other media such as books. Should we ban books as well?

Maybe I'm not too well-informed, but I read that the new policy has some advantages for journalists and in general authors, because they will receive money from platforms such as Google and Facebook

Wikipedia won't be affected, nor parodies or memes or open-source contents

I understand that the big platforms will have stricter filter because they don't want obviously to pay fines, but this is a price that we can bear to avoid that big companies will receive too much money from ideas which aren't theirs. This is maybe a sort of step to arrive to implement a online patent for intellectual properties. Why should Internet be different than the real-life world after all?

However, I have to inform myself better, but I don't picture it as the death of Internet

I can give you a million different sources that will basically say the same thing but more serious... At the end of the day, this article will ruin the internet as we know it... They will be able to filter everything, they can even filer negative words against someone...  It's a really bad law and it should not exist

I think you're a little bit overdramatic right now  The article written in July was very bad, but the EU changed it and now there are a lot of exceptions (especially for non-profit activities, memes and parodies), links will still be free, artists and writers will be paid more, people won't risk anything if they upload forbidden material, because it will be Google's responsability and other big companies

I'd like to add that this is a directive, so it obliges member states to achieve these results, but it doesn't impose specific means, so every European state will decide practically how to achieve these results, and it will take yeeeears

No, the EU isn't. It's just that if a national government can't force their agenda through at home they try to squeeze through the EU. Don't forget that this actually already failed last year but the lobbyists didn't want that so they let them vote until they got what they wanted. This isn't the EU being anti-democratic, this is the industry going over everybody until they get what they want.
