I haven't thought about unstanning, but I do hate/makes me sad that she has forgotten about South America - Chile- for 7 freaking years.

One long as* post coming up.

I mean, it's fun (this place is mostly good, and not toxic like twitter), Gaga's entertaining, and Gaga's music has gotten some of us through some very tough times. A lot of Gaga stans don't just talk Gaga, too. She's defn. done some things I really didn't like (R. Kelly, Terry), but I also think she was in a bad place during that time and working with him was fairly normalized....and Terry wasn't really exposed for real beyond some minor whispers until after she worked with him. She did apologize, and I kind of side-eye her old manager for not nixing the R. Kelly thing too even if Gaga was ultimately responsible.

And most people are flawed (including some of my favorite artists), putting someone up on a pedestal is always a bad choice which is what I think a lot of "stans" do. I kind of call myself a stan, but in reality I'm more of a huge fan because I'm always aware that you can't put someone on that pedestal.

As  far as her speeches, tho...I think people were way harsh on them, and I'm not just saying that as a 'stan.' Girl was emotional and has been through some -ish, and this was the culmination of her getting her career back to the very top even after the SuperBowl, C2C, Joanne, etc.  I never saw it as fake; more as her being super emotional slash nervous because the Oscar crowd can be very judgey and petty (see their treatment of JLaw when she "fell" from grace and Anne Hathway). And not trying to start trouble, but her speeches about Bradley that annoyed people...well, I don't think they had a physical affair but those two were/are odd about one another. I don't think she was trying to kiss h*s ass and play it safe, it came more across like she was...kind of in love. And many of us are cringey when we have a crush, so it was understandable imo.

You know it’s funny that (and please don’t take this the wrong way) for someone who takes pride in not putting Gaga on a “pedestal”, you sure seem to find a lot of excuses for her actions :lolga:. And I’m not saying you’re wrong! I’m not saying anything in particular, it’s just that, well, how can you know that those arguments are truly fair and it’s not just the deluded stan in you talking, right? Is it really possible to tell the difference between the two standing from our ‘stan’ point of view?

Oh, I'm just visiting-

I've never even come close to un-stanning since 2009!  Like many people, i'm less involved when there isn't something new going on, but even then i'm still very much a stan!  Plus, it's very rare that she doesn't have at least some type of new project!

Never, but I lost my interest in her career between C2C Era and Pre Joanne Era. Also, 2014 was my last year in high school, so yeah I don't remember nothing except the GUY video. Those 2 years are a huge black hole in my 10 years stanning her lol.

Sis I'm not taking pride in it and not trying to make excuses, rather explaining why I don't think something is entirely bad or entirely good. Explanations of my opinions on things fans have made a big deal of doesn't mean I'm making excuses. I think the R. Kelly thing was so stupid and she was ultimately responsible. But behavior exists on a scale, and there's probably a medium between "she holds no fault" and "girl is irredeemable, believed the accusations even though he wasn't found guilty, and only worked with him for money, attention." Wasn't trying to talk down by mentioning that a lot of stans put people up on an impossible pedestal, either. And is it really easier to believe she's fake and sold out to Hollywood in an effort to be liked by the GP, or that she was nervous and has always been a bit cringey with speeches and might have had a crush on a taken man?

And you're right, I don't know. But as fans, we often make assumptions and we even make assumptions about public figures that we aren't fans of. But like I said, there's a scale and I feel like a lot of stans take one extreme or the other: they are either furious if they are disappointed and trash it to death or defend something as perfect. And I think it's easier to be a fan, or stan, when you just kind of look at the middle on certain contentious issues.

I really cooled on her when ARTPOP came out. The sound was too different and whole roll out was a mess. Now looking back I didn't realize everything that was going on. When Joanne dropped, I fell right back in love and gave ARTPOP another shot. I can't believe I hated it years ago. It's so good!

Post ARTPOP was quite a tough time. I really wanted her to repeak but it was mainly nothing interesting -> tribute -> nothing interesting -> tribute. It didn’t feel as original and creative as the Gaga I loved. I didn’t really burn my stan card but I did not follow her as close.

Now I log on to GGD 10 times a day, post ARTPOP was around once a week.

I didn't become a stan until I watched FF2 but I kept up with everything she did because  I developed my academic interest in cultural anthropology through American pop culture at that time. I don't care for Born This Way, probably never will, but I adored You & I off the album. Jo Calderone drag at the VMAs is perhaps the worst thing she's ever done and marks the point when I really gave up on her for years.  I remember that winter someone wanted me to watch the Marry the Night mv and I was like I cannot stand that b*tch, please no :air:. Funny enough, G.U.Y brought me back into the fold and I loved that song/mv. I think but can't be sure that I liked SXSW because I was a f*cking mess in 2014 and that was right up my alley. Joanne is my favorite album from her and ASIB is great, etc.

I don't know what she could do that would make me unstan at this point because I'm still in the honeymoon stage and my interest in pop culture and music is not as volatile as it was in the past.

I was one of the unlucky fans that watched the Skype ball livestream:toofunny:  What a nightmare. Also remembering that sad day the ARTPOP countdown clock hit zero and nothing happened:interestinga:   But honestly her adding incredible Scheiße performances to JWT and Enigma makes up for it all.

Literally the MR video:ladyhaha:It was just so tacky and amateur it really made me question whether she had any taste or creativity at all - surely the same person responsible for her flawless work 2009-2014 couldn't think that was acceptable? Made me wonder whether or not the good stuff was actually her or just her team.

The whole Joanne era actually made me dislike her. Her fashion was awful, the music was bland. FF2 made me see her as kind of whiney and miserable, rather than the fun and creative person I thought she was. I generally disagreed with her whole artistic focus/direction (trying desperately to relate to "normal" people by putting on a fake "authentic" facade, feeding into clichés about how ballads and no makeup are more authentic and honest...). I felt like it went against everything she stood for before. But I feel like now, fortunately we are seeing that Joanne was simply another costume, hopefully one she'll never put on again.

I still don’t understand why the puking was so controversial....

Well it's more on the fact where she was in her career when she did this performance art.  It wouldnt have been as controversial if it wasnt for her album getting lukewarm responses from her fans after a lot of hype and extensive promo (and weird pretentious interviews) and then the media calling the performance art as yet another form of attention seeking to remain relevant.

I believe she was overexposed at the time and the media just love to tear her down.

Never, really.

“You didn’t release a video I loved, so I’m throwing everything away” is pretty childish and short sighted.

If Gaga does something I don’t care for, I just wait. She will shortly get my attention again. I have plenty to do during the wait!
