A way for Katy to repeak

Katy will never reach the heights she once had, but she can definitely still be very successful.

As stupid and superficial as it is, her hair is part of it. Her whole image was Bettie Page chic, and the hair and different style didn't help. Bubble gum pop isn't as big, either, but if she went to more folksy pop. I could definitely see her reestablishing herself.

I wish she would go back to more singer-songwriter esque songs like she had with California Girls album and Teenage Dream. I think Prism was like the beginning of the end for me.

actually no. Rise, Birthday, and This Is How We Do only flopped on Katy Perry standards. Any other artist would kill to get singles that all peaked top 30. Rise debuted at 11 with virtually no promo.

It's not just by Katy standards, every popstar is expected to get top 10's on a frequent basis. They honestly did flop, even with Katy sending birthday cake to radio stations, they wouldn't play it. I don't know anyone who knows and loves those songs except actual Katy fans. The impact is what matters more than the chart position. She has the fanbase that can guarantee a top ten for a lead single but even they've been waning lately. Its the public that truly helped her get those hits. It's well established that she uses fake views, likes and subscribers because the performance of her recent work on the charts isn't on the level of someone with the amount of online fandom she apparently has. She's been been gaining around 400k subscribers per month for the last few years and her videos get crazy views and likes, so why is it that they're underperforming? If you have that amount of dedicated fans and are constantly gaining them, your songs should be hitting top 20 or higher. I think Katy's online team ensure that she looks mega successful to compensate for her poor song performance lately, but anyone who's bothered to look at the data can blatantly see that there is a huge dearth between online success and actual chart success.

Birthday flopped? I remember back in the 4th grade that song was EVERYWHERE and a LOT of people liked it :firega:

Yes, it only went top 10 in 5 countries, only one of which was a major music market. The video also flopped because it was 8 minutes long interspersed with acting and even her fans weren't here for a Katy video that long. The video to this day only has just under 70 million views and 537k likes, that's less than GUY, despite GUY being a longer video with 4-minute credits, having 2 versions, being a much bigger chart flop and Gaga being at her lowest point. That tells you everything. And just because it was big in your area doesn't mean it was big everywhere. Note that you said it was big when you were in 4th grade. 9 year olds have very different musical taste to teenagers and adults and those groups are the ones that decide the charts. It also shows that the song was so childish that only kids truly enjoyed it and kids have very low attention spans and move on quickly, so I wouldn't use a song being big in the 4th grade as any indication of a worldwide smash.

it's pretty sad to realise that once dr puke stopped writing for katy, she started underperforming/flopping, so maybe he was the reason katy had hits then :emma:

Now that's a major factor. There's no denying he was involved in just about every hit she ever had. Because of him, she had the mega hits I Kissed A Girl, Hot n Cold, California Gurls, Teenage Dream, E.T., Last Friday Night, The One That Got Away, Part Of Me, Wide Awake, Roar and Dark Horse. And the top 20's that were Unconditionally and Birthday. He was the major key to her success as even with her other partner in crime, Max Martin still on board for Witness, the singles from that album just couldn't do it despite being fun and trendy.

Don’t forget the lyric video that has almost 273 million views :ally:

Yeah, because it was shorter and therefore more watchable, so any fans who wanted to listen to it just went to the lyrics video instead. But for all those views, it only has just over 1 million likes. Normally, Katy's videos have a better view/like ratio than that. Again, could be paid for views.

Could be, but that video was always really satisfying to watch so that could also be a factor

She doesn’t look good with the short hair anyway. It would’ve grown by now if she didn’t keep cutting it.

The GP liked her because she was the hot brunette with big boobs. And her fan base is primarily made up of the GP.

She just needs longer hair. Maybe she can do red or purple or something. The blonde braids was a cute look tho, but it was long.

She already has her legacy. She’ll be like Cyndi Lauper  :staymad:

Excuse me. It was Gaga who's career resembled Cindy Lauper (before ASIB, or course).

At first it really did seem like their careers would take similar routes!  I thought this might be the case all the way up through the ARTPOP era, and I love Cyndi but I did not want Gaga to fade and be eclipsed like that!

I would say it was C2C when Gaga's career really began to compare favorably, with multiple #1 albums in a row leading up to this massive ASIB era.  Cyndi's third album didn't even make the top 30, and she has not released anything commercially successful since.  (Though she still has her legacy and is wonderful)
