SAME. I'm sure we're going to go hungry the next few weeks during this post-ASIB down time then we'll FEAST during the MET gala.

I just wonder if she'll be using the platform to promote anything.

The MET gala is always fun to see who sticks to the theme and who literally cannot be bothered :ladyhaha:

This theme was made for her so it’ll be really exciting to see what she wears. Tbh I imagine Gucci with what their doing atm will be a pretty popular choice for people. I reckon it’ll be Versace or Valentino.

I love how some user in the thread pretends like he or she knows **** about fashion.

Gaga's past Met Gala looks have been on point, and most importantly, on theme. The long list of examples that someone gave just proves how little the person really knows fashion.

For the 2016 theme on tech, Gaga's Versace outfit was laser cut genuine leather with laminated gun metal. Her look, while not the most standout piece, incorporated technology flawlessly.

Gaga appreciates fashion, and she embraces fashion. And sometimes, just because you have a weirder silhouette or grander structure doesn't mean your piece "pushes fashion forward".

No one in Met Gala is pushing fashion forward tbh. And the only looks that could match Gaga's was Rihanna's, because she, like Gaga, knows how to appreciate fashion.

The theme is Camp which I could not be more excited about from Gaga. God, that's what I needed, an opportunity for Gagz be funny and satirical again and not work so seriously on her artistic reputation. I sure missed that about campy 2008-2013Ga!

I hope a lot of other celebrities are brave enough to follow the theme and don't just show up in something cool. It would be so iconic if celebs were brave enough to come as a parody of themselves. Imagine Kim Kardashian in Kim Kardashian drag. Ahh yas, I can smell the iconicness from here

Yes, Gaga was the most "out there" in terms of hair and make-up but she was not the most impressive or talked about from a fashion perspective at all, other people (even Julianne Moore's messy outfit) upstaged her completely which is a little unexpected, obviously, since avant-garde fashion is her staple.

Instead Gaga wore a basic, glittering bodysuit with a huge, boxy cape with shoes that didn't match. Best dressed lists did mention her but they didn't rave about her as they did about other stars because as an upscaled fashion look, it just fell short.

But in 2016 she really completely missed the mark in terms of "headlining" the event:

Of course Gaga doesn't always have to be the most freaky star out there but from a fashion perspective, yes, she has actually "underperformed" at these events.

Nothing wrong with that of course. But it is what happened.

I think that Gaga does not plan her Gala looks in order to "win" or "upstage" everyone else. The point is not to be the Loudest B*tch In The Room. The point, for her, is to attend a fun party, mingle with other fashionistas and designers and editors and stuff, and create a collaboration with whoever is dressing her.

Since Gaga is able to invite ppl, we better be seeing some drag queens this year. Queens like Manila are literally the definition of camp, and should have this platform to display their artistry. I feel like if all ppl, Gaga would be inviting drag queens if she’s permitted to.

Absolutely.

At the same time it does clash with Gaga's most iconic and memorable fashion looks which were inspired by the desire to make a bold, unforgettable fashion statement. But you're right, she has no obligation to do that every time. It just explains why some fans are a little underwhelmed when she does appear on this red carpet, as it is a fashion lover's dream come true.

I just wish she could've attended earlier when she didn't start her dressing down trend

what does camp fashion mean tho? :selena:

Flamboyant, eccentric, effeminate, theatrical (pertains to characteristics of homosexuality)- literally everything Gaga has worn since the beginning of her career. Elton John is a great example of someone who wears camp fashion.

Imo they're more ambitious in terms of cut, shape, texture and overall execution  They offer something new that is related to what's happening in fashion. Gaga's looks to me are striking but the way they're put together makes her look like a pop star who tried to dress appropriately in an event full of stars showcasing runway designs.

While her overall look may seem different, it almost seems slapped together rather than a fully-formed design. If I imagine actual runway models wearing her looks I can't imagine liking it because it just falls flat without Gaga in it and it would not command interest or surprise whatsoever withou her (I think).

Granted, not all of the looks I posted would look good on a professional runway :laughga: Looks like Katy's and Madonna's and 2015's Rihanna look most definitely match the "pop stars trying to look cool" criticism but they were so dramatic and striking that they blew Gaga's out of the water nonetheless, which would be unimaginable if we were in, say, 2009 to 2013.

But whatever, not trying to construct a big critical argument. I just wanted her to bring it harder at these events for the sake of nostalgia more than anything else. At the end of the day the event is not about her and it might even be a good thing that she's not trying to "compete" in outdoing everyone and focuses more on just serving a look that feels right to her :oprah:

But still, as Gaga looks, they will never ever make the top 10 of her career. And I kinda expected that from her Met Gala looks, I guess.

I guess this is the point where I say this is very subjective and that we have different tastes?  I mean they are beautiful dresses, but not groundbreaking, if we're talking about creativity and being different from everyone else, I think Gaga's metallic suit is more fitting for that description and more worthy of the credit. Of course Claire Danes was awesome too, and Katy Perry too, but I wouldn't place those women you listed above Gaga at all. I actually like how she didn't even wear a dress or pants, when 80% of other women did, and her outfit resembled of metal and science-fiction and was very intricately designed with lots of attention to detail. It just gives me this very rebellious vibe that is not-so-feminine in the way other female celebrities were, maybe it has something to do with the behaviour she pulled off that day but it was pretty bold imo. I also kinda have a thing for jackets, it just has this very masculine and confident vibe.

And I'm not claiming that she was the hottest star that night, that would depend on how much support the media gives her/other people. I'm saying it's a great look that's all. And I don't find it surprising that only Gaga could pull that off, because dresses are tailored to certain groups of people without the intention of it being universal, so... but I could still imagine like Cardi B or Janelle Monae wearing that, not the hair of course.

I could agree with you about Rihanna's egg dress, but not so much about Katy Perry, and certainly not Madonna. I'm sorry to say this but Madonna's MET Gala looks have been pretty disastrous to me, and trust me I have nothing against her. She's supposed to be this supreme of female pop and she doesn't really look like one.
