Actually, it's probably been even longer since a rock influenced pop song was number 1, and that's more what Shallow is.  I couldn't even guess the last time something like that would have been number one!  I feel like Taylor Swift probably had one of the most recent country number ones (which would have been years ago), but I could be wrong about that.

As for Rock, I think the last rock No. 1 was The White Stripes’ “Icky Thump” from 2007. Might be wrong though.

I remember that song/album! I think i'm going to listen to that today now. Wikipedia is saying #26 for the Hot 100, although it appears to have been number one on some charts.   I honestly can't even think of the last time a straight-up rock song was #1 on the Hot 100, unless i'm missing a really obvious one (which wouldn't surprise me if I was lol)
