#12. When The World Was At War We Kept Dancing

11-When-The-World-Was-At-War.jpg

Overall Score: 7.26

Highest Score: 11 - @Luv u Sum @FFXSoul91

Lowest Score: 3 - @corvus albus

@Blue Madonna's comments:

Ever since I’ve heard it, I’ve thought that this song is probably the weakest on the album, but I love it! A warm, comforting guitar intro with her trademark dreamy vocals over the top. Lovely lyrics in the intro as well. I initially found the way she sings in the pre-chorus quite jarring, but once I got used to it I came to appreciate it. I love the high notes in the chorus, and I hope we see Lana use this kind of falsetto more in her future music!

Comments Part I:

Spoiler

@HausOfHarlow: Random fact - I took off the "We Kept Dancing" portion in my iTunes. I think "When the World Was At War" is a great song title.

@Punktious: Good, but eh

@Lonely Lolita: Meh

@Rumours1977: A profound track with a great message, lovely lyrics, and a complex melody throughout. I appreciate how she uses her lower register to represent the pessimistic outlook and her upper register to convey the optimistic message regarding the future of American society. This almost got my 11!

@ARTPOP2: I kinda love that song but still have a slight discomfort listening to it but I still enjoy listening to it since it has this 1960s Civil Rights Movement vibe to it

@AJK273: Too similar for me to some of the other tracks on the album that it leaves me muddy and this is also where I need to go on about the tracklist and how badly listed this album is again. This album needed to go in sections with the more energy driven songs at the beginning, happier songs towards the middle, and the more folkish/deeper darker songs at the end.

sksdfdssdds idk if anyone heard about it but here in New Zealand there was this MASSIVE outroar when some British tourists came and they left trash all a beach in Auckland :laughga:

It was like the biggest scandal in months and they were trending all over the news pages :laughga:

To find one of my rates

But unfortunately they’re gone

Comments Part II:

Spoiler

@hausofcy: i love the chorus so much. The verses are great but not her best imo

@Oriane: It’s beautiful but it doesn’t really stick with me.

@corvus albus: This concept has been done before and done a lot better :noparty:

@hellothing: Keeping up with the album’s theme, this song has one of Lana’s best storytelling. Americans are IMMIGRANTS. She paints this well. I interpret this as her response to Trump’s idiotic and hurtful immigrant laws. If the song before was an ode to America’s strength, this was an ode to America’s resiliency. She asks, is it the end of America? In which she answers, no! It’s only the beginning! If we hold on to hope, we’ll have a happy ending. Damn tears again. It’s like a mother singing a lullaby to her child when the world is in chaos. It’s so beautiful. That closing line - we’ll do it again. Resiliency man, resiliency.

@halcyonpop: Another title....... this was a choice.

Iconic. Now name it It took 347 characters to write a song title so that your screen couldn't get empty and finally I'm fine

Lana gets high on me, and she’s had no complaints.
