God no. A song she deliberately wrote to not be a Gaga song can never be her most important song :rip: She wrote that song for a movie she didn't write, for a character that, by her own admission, is nothing like her. How can that compare to her previous hits?

Edit: Don't get me wrong, I love the song, and I think some of the songs on the soundtrack are among the best she's ever recorded but I would never consider them the most "important" ones of her career. They don't represent her imo :oprah:

I Will Always Love You isn't even a Whitney song but it is one of her most important hits

Wouldn’t JD be the most important since it gave her a career in the first place? Or rather, the chance to seize a career. JD was her best opportunity.

Luckily we stan an amazing artist with different signature songs. And they are Just Dance, Poker Face, Bad Romance, Alejandro (in latin america and spain), Born This Way and now Shallow. All those are in the same epic level of impact. We seem to forget because of a few years of not-so-much impact (million reasons exists but is not at the high level of those, it stands next to TEOG, huge hit but not as big as the ones I listed)., but she has quite a few. Of course if we have to pick one it would be bad romance because it was the one that gave her the STATUS she has (just like Thriller for MJ, even tho he has more songs as impactful as that).

Alejandro was huge all over the Europe I remember those times.... My mom loves the song to this day. Also TEOG was huge here as well.

I don't think the separation of Gaga and Ally is as clean cut as she would like throughout ASIB OST. Yes, WDYDT isn't a Gaga sound, but Shallow? Hmmm... if you listen to Gaga talk about Shallow, the song's universal themes clearly resonate with her. In her own words, she thinks people are drawn to the song because we live in a shallow time and sincere conversations between men and women are increasingly rare. Also, remember the lyrics of that unreleased Joanne track Dark Blue were very very similar to Shallow.

It only is if you care about charts. I don’t and for me Born This Way, Bad Romance etc are far more important

Whitney never wrote any of her own songs though, so the comparison isn’t the same. Her main albums were just as impersonal as The Bodyguard.

Technically both Gaga and Ally songs were written by this girl named Stefani Germanotta, you might have heard of her. ;)

Stefani and Gaga are one and the same though. Ally was created for a movie and she didn’t even think of the character’s name.

Wet Fire

It is one of her most important songs. People don't see it as an Ally song lol. They see it as a Lady Gaga song. However, Just Dance, Poker Face, Bad Romance and BTW have had bigger impact than Shallow.

But Bad Romance; Poker Face, Just Dance, Paparazzi and Born This Way made her legacy and where she is right now.

Absolutely, all of those put her in the map and made her a major Pop force. But they were still inside the wall of pop music for young audiences. Shallow broke that barrier and has attracted people from all genres and ages.

She has done many things in recent years that changed the perception of many people, like C2C, Sound of Music tribute, National Anthem, etc. But you would still find people saying stuff like "if she is that talented, why does she do all that other crap?".

Shallow shattered all of those expectations, and it has reached people everywhere.

Serial Chiller

Bad Romance remains unbothered.

Well, slightly bothered because Shallow may peak at #1 and she will forever be a BB #2 :messga:

To be fair, her most important song is lowkey Bad Romance because without it she wouldn't be the star she is today and she wouldn't have gotten the chance to create a song like this for a movie either.

But get Shallow to #1 regardless because it deserves it and more :trollga:

Well Just Dance was super important to make her famous in the first place

Poker Face was a huge commercial hit that made her a force

Bad Romance is still her most iconic to date

And now Shallow to resurect her  career

I'd say those 4 are her most important
